Why does Rebirth of Souls punish you for winning early?

I think this game has some of the most frustrating comeback mechanics I’ve experienced in a fighting game. I understand the purpose of comeback mechanics. You don’t want a match to feel completely decided just because someone took an early lead but there’s a difference between giving the losing player a chance to recover and making it feel like the player who performed better early is actually being punished for it.

That’s what bothers me here. If you’re winning early, you can end up needing to essentially beat your opponent three times, while they only need to beat you twice. At that point, what meaningful advantage did I actually earn by outplaying them at the beginning of the match?

If the losing player is going to receive such a significant comeback advantage, I think there needs to be something that meaningfully rewards the player who built the lead as well whether that’s increased damage, better resources, or some other benefit. Otherwise, it creates this weird situation where being ahead can almost feel like a disadvantage.

That’s probably my biggest frustration with the game because I actually think this game has a ton of potential. The core concept is really cool, and there’s a lot I like about it but some of the balancing decisions genuinely make me wonder how they made it into the final game.
