In the spirit of October/Halloween; who are your top favourite film directors with a largely horror-based filmography?

Something like that. I was unsure whether or not to include David Lynch, do you think he counts as a "horror filmmaker"?

Interested in seeing your choices. I'm not including The Three Colours trilogy/The Double Life of Veronique/Possession as they're partly French films, nor the Dekalog as it's a mini series...but at least this is partly represented by my inclusion of the feature-length version of Dekalog V - A Short Film About Killing.

I've been revisiting various and notable films from Hungary over the last some months, including everything from Béla Tarr's filmography since his passing at the start of the year. Tarr is arguably the best but other significant filmmakers from this country that I've come across are Miklós Jancsó, László Nemes, István Szabó, Zoltán Fábri and György Fehér.
