Double Trouble
These are our 3rd (8yo)& 4th (1.5yo) yellow & white Mountain cur girls over the last 29 years. Don’t guess we would know what to do without the many wonderful, weird ways of a cur dog. The uncomplicated promise of protection and loyalty is fail proof, they mean it. They’ll retrieve your dove (or your ball) and alllll the squirrels, plus keep your yard free of all fuzzies…Protect your chickens but also proudly rub any and all raccoon sh!t on their necks to run straight to you like it’s important garlic…cause we might have vampires, but…we’re safe…are you proud? These girls….Can’t run them off with a stick and you aren’t leaving them behind if they can help it- they’ll beat you to the truck and be the first one in the boat, too. A shotgun being pulled outta the case is a complete sentence. They are without fail dogs-always available for childcare, for chasing down anything with sleek speed and pinpoint precision. There will never be a missed chance to bark the window allllll the way down at the Amazon man or the neighborhood jogger, they don’t miss much. They are pulled up paw-pointing and patience for the stalk. Paws up on a tree so high they almost levitate, yet are also 100% content to hog the bed. If they rest with you, they’re touching you, always! Ability to build the niiiiicest nest for any rest outta whatever is available, bonus points for soft blankets, but gravel at the campground digs out nice for a circle up, too! Best couch hounds on earth when nothing needs tended to!! Explode & literally hug & cry if we’ve been gone too long or if someone they love, but don’t see daily, arriving. It is at this point that their tongues become extra long like magic, because they are not shy about kissing their people! Lots of people don’t know about them, but Mountain curs have been just as important to our family as they were to the early settlers. I can usually pick one out from a mile away. They are all bred a little bit different, depending on how people like to hunt them, but on my list of boxes, all four of these girls have checked the exact same ones. I miss the first two dearly because those are the ones we raised our older kids with. Number four is in charge of a five-year-old boy. I guess when he’s a teenager he will also be responsible for helping find girl #5.
