Omeprazole

I have been experiencing GI issues for about a year now, I have been diagnosed with endometriosis so I believe that is the cause but before I knew this I got put on 20mg omeprazole to stop my nausea and acid reflux. It took me several months to get myself to take it because I was so anxious about it. I never really wanted to be on it because of the horror stories I'd heard about coming off it but eventually I relented because my parents and doctors said it would cure me (spoiler alert, no such luck). Unfortunately I think the doctor forgot I was on it or something because rather than six weeks, I have been on it for five months. I asked about it today and they told me to wean off of it but I am really anxious about the rebound symptoms. How screwed am I, for how long, and what can I do to make it easier? Are there any things I shouldn’t be eating apart from chocolate, tomato, acidic things etc? Would sugary things like dried banana chips and other fruit be okay? I’m off to university really soon so is this going to be a problem that ruins my first few months there?
