Anyone else’s only real symptoms chest pain and burping?

I was diagnosed with Gerd a few months back now in May and started omeprazole and have now been on it two months, it’s helped a ton with chest pain. On days where I’m very active it’s fine but most days now are either 50/50 and it sucks ass. I have know issue swallowing food but trying to get burps out they get stuck and they really cause pain and Gas-X has been my savior along with the omeprazole. My biggest worry now is, am I gonna be stuck with this forever? I’m only 25 and this inconsistent or some days constant dull pain all day, let’s just say it gets very disheartening.

I need help😭😭😭

I hope it's okay for me to post here.

I am a 21-year-old college student, and about four days ago, I started experiencing stomach discomfort. At first, I thought it was just indigestion because two days before my symptoms started, I had a huge cheat meal—I ate pizza, a lot of spicy sauce, fries, ice cream, and basically a lot of unhealthy food.

Because of that, I assumed it was only indigestion or maybe diarrhea, so I took dicycloverine. However, after two days, the stomach pain still hadn't gone away. I even drank a glass of Coke because it's a common belief where I live that Coke helps with digestion. Unfortunately, later that night, I developed severe stomach pain again.

A few days later, I started thinking that maybe I have acid reflux. As of now, I'm still experiencing symptoms such as a burning pain below my sternum, constant burping and passing gas, and feeling full very quickly after eating. Whenever I lie down, the burning becomes much worse.

After doing some research online, I'm now worried that my symptoms have become chronic😭😭😭 Before all of this happened, I already noticed that I burped quite often, so now I'm wondering if that huge meal somehow triggered a problem with my lower esophageal sphincter (LES). Is it possible that this has become a chronic condition because of that?

The more I read online, the more anxious I become. I can't believe I might have to live with this forever. I only started changing my diet yesterday. I've completely avoided soda, oily foods, greasy foods, and spicy foods. I've also taken Kremil-S, which helped a little. However, last night I woke up because of the burning sensation again, and I took Gaviscon, but it didn't seem to help.

Do you think I should see a doctor and get properly diagnosed? Could this be something other than acid reflux, or is it too early to tell? Should I continue following my new diet for now, or is it likely that I'll have to live with this forever?

I'm honestly crying because of how anxious this has made me. I can't believe this is my life now. Food has always been one of the ways I cope with stress, and now I'm scared to eat the things I used to enjoy. Next year is my final year in college, and I'll also be preparing for my board exams. I'm terrified that this condition will affect my studies and my daily life.

Do you have any advice or words of encouragement? I would really appreciate hearing your experiences.

Voquenza pricing and where to buy it?

I started using Voquenza after another med stopped working. The Voquienza solved the problem but the price is astronomical. I received a 3 month "coupon" so I was able to buy it at CVS for $90 per 30 tablets.

How and where should I buy it on an ongoing basis? Can I send a script to a Canadia pharmacy (I am in California)? Any advice would be appreciated.

F22, severe acid reflux wanting adivce or knowledge?

my acid reflux is debilitating and the only thing that truly helps is lying down ironically. I'm currently on famotidine 40mg every morning and night, and it only has around 50% effectiveness. What may be causing this?

My acid reflux 'tests' have always come back clear, normal. Yet I am debilitated by it, I have to shorten my days just because overdoing it will send my acid reflux up to the point i feel like I'm going to throw up (which i find triggering due to emetaphobia).

My acid reflux also will wake me up daily in the night and stop me from falling asleep. During these moments I have to fall asleep with gum in my mouth and half sitting up to see if that help

I also have found when my acid reflux has been bad all day, i cannot swallow my food. It physically gets stuck in my throat. I either choke or have to sip a large amount of water to get the food down. This happens no matter how small the food is, how mushy it is or how solid it is.

What has helped you guys? Has anyone else got severe acid reflux that doesn't seem to be abnormal on tests yet is severe? Is there anything that causes this?

Life after GB REMOVAL

Why is the acid reflux even worse????? So, back in March, I had my gb removed, did great, felt pretty decent besides the soreness. No acid reflux, no heartburn no NOTHING. About 3 weeks after, that's when the acid reflux came back with a vengeance!!!! I've been doing my research and I personally think it's bile reflux, so far my GI has not ruled it out yet. If anything, they are talking about more tests, such as the tube down my throat 😔 but I can not keep on with this reflux. Oh, I have not changed my diet(still a low fat diet) but I have put on more pounds 🤭 Have anyone experience more acid reflux after GB surgery? And what are you doing or using to keep it maintained?

I’m so scared

Recently(today), I’ve had intense anxiety regarding health and one of them lead to acid reflux, so I had really mild symptoms at first then I kept thinking and stressing about it and then had really intense one where I felt the acid come up my throat and i felt a burning sensation I’m so scared that I’m fucked for life, please tell me these go away or dont do permenant damage. I heard somewhere anxiety can cause you to produce extra stomach acid so I really hope it’s just that and that it goes down eventually, for now I’ll just try to calm myself, I really dont want this on my already long list of problems

Is a pinch of baking soda a possible work-around for acidity in reflux

Citric acid in a favorite sugar-free soda issue. Has anyone tried adding a tiny amount of baking soda to their fruit juice, soda, etc. I've added a tiny amount of baking soda to flavored sodas & seltzer waters. Also diluting either of them with an equal or a quarter amount of water. Since my reflux is mostly invisible I don't know yet; last endoscopy similar to one previously, showed inflammation in gastric cardia, metaplasia, and now moving from famotidine to omeprazole since famotidine made only slight improvement in result.

Remove Gerd symptoms - herbs, supplements? What non Rx or surgery worked to get rid of your Gerd symptoms?

Who has successfully removed or almost eliminated their Gerd symptoms with supplements, herbs, or any other non-RX or surgery?

I have pretty severe LPR, just started to take Rabeperazole, still have symptoms.

I recently came across DGL powder, and I’m just starting to take that today actually, to see if that helps remove or eliminate the symptoms.

Has anyone used any herbs, supplements, or any other technique that actually was able to get rid of their GERD symptoms?

After 5 endoscopies, a SIBO, GERD & IBS diagnosis, I built an app to help me spot my patterns. Need feedback pls!

Hey everyone,

I was diagnosed with GERD, IBS, and SIBO back in 2021. After going through 5 endoscopies, thousands of dollars in medical bills, and being told to take 40mg of Omeprazole daily "indefinitely," I felt a bit lost. It really felt like no real effort was being made to find my actual underlying issue.and instead i was given a giant list of ingredients that may or may not be my real issue.

To be fair, my diet back then was pretty bad... with lots of sweets, sodas, spicy food and way too much coffee on an empty stomach. I eventually tried a strict bland diet for 2 months (just chicken, rice and greens), and the irritation completely stopped. It was clear that in my case the food choices were the key, but trying to manually track complex ingredients and spot time delayed symptoms on my own was pretty impossible.

So, for the last 8 months, I’ve been coding an app to help me handle this data and spot those hidden patterns for me. I call it Puubu, and I just released it on iOS and Android.

Instead of making you type out full recipes, you can just type the meal name or take a picture, and the app estimates the ingredients for you to quickly tweak. When you log a symptom later, the algorithm cross-references overlaps, portion sizes, and delayed reactions over several weeks.

The app itself however is not an instant gratification tool. Real patterns take time to form and any app that instantly shows you results must be lying imo.

I built this to deal with my own health struggles, but I want to make it useful for others. Everyone seems to react in different ways to their conditions and if you've tried other food or symptom trackers and ended up quitting them, what did they miss? What features do you actually care about?

Like I said I would love to make this more useful and would love to hear any feedback, good or bad.

Grade B erosive esophagitis- how to deal with the pain

Found out i had this yesterday during an upper GI scope. The pain is unbearable. I’ve been on PPI’s for years as I have a hiatal hernia, and GERD. They want to try me on a new non PPI med but I am not going to be able to afford it.

I know there aren’t any easy shortcuts to healing or pain relief, but I don’t know much about EE so maybe I am missing something.

Did anybody else lose weight once your reflux started?

I have been to the doctor, and I am taking Omeprazole. I'm doing a little better now. Once I started having the heartburn and acid flowing up into my mouth, I really started avoiding lots of the foods and drinks I usually ingested such as whole milk, ect. I lost 20 lbs in a year. 125 down to 105.

I have always been a slim person, but when I went to the doctor earlier this month I learned I was slightly underweight. Alongside having a vitamin D level of 25, I was feeling pretty crappy. I have a very active lifestyle, but once my doctor informed me "no running" I felt pretty under the weather from that announcement. I love to run, I'm always active, but she doesn't want to risk me losing more weight. No more daily runs for me currently, but I'm still taking walks and completing my very daily physical tasks of life in the country with animals.

I am now counting calories to make sure I get at least 2000 in each day. It used to feel like a struggle to eat with that feeling like something was stuck in your throat, but that feeling has since mostly resolved since taking said medication and supplements. Protein shakes are a Godsend. I am happy to announce I've gained a few pounds since, but was wondering if anyone else has a similar experience?

Suggestions on next steps

Hello have been encountering acid reflux for more than 2 years and recently did all the work up.

Initially a PCP recommended Famotidine and Simethicone, didn’t help.

Later, tried pantaprazole for a month, modest improvement and again came back to baseline.

Next, with a GI friend of mine, got prescribed Omeprazole and it worked wonders for a week and again started having problems.

Recently, did Ultrasound, endoscopy, biopsy.

Endoscopy findings - irregular z line was noted, minimal irregularity at 40cm

Biopsy should inflammation consistent with acid reflux, everything else normal

Ultrasound normal for any gallbladder issues

The GI doctor literally didn’t talk about next steps,
I then had to call them and get checked for SIBO

SIBO - negative even though it says SIBO test always doesn’t detect correctly

The GI doctor again put me on pantaprazole and asked me to take for few months

1 month and no improvement, basically zero appetite and burping in loops, which causes inability to eat my daily calories and thus weight loss

I spoke with another GI on video and he suggested Vonoprazan and I have been taking the last 2 days.

He further suggested Eosophagus Mamometry and 24 hrs impedance testing if there is no relief

Any suggestions from people who have gone this path? Should I push GI for the 2 additional tests or try with Vonoprazan for a month and see if it helps?

Silent reflux baby

Parents of babies who have had silent reflux, when did it improve?

Currently sat bolt upright in bed holding my 6 month old at 3am so she can sleep. She will not settle back in her cot or even co sleeping. She has to be upright.

She's had silent reflux since birth but used to be able to sleep through the majority of it. We actually thought the reflux phase was coming to and end around week 19 so we started to wean off the omeprazole. Well here we are at week 26 and she's now on double her dosage and her reflux is worse than ever. I'm getting less sleep now than i did when she was a newborn and starting to go delirious from sleep deprivation.

Please tell me there's light at the end of the tunnel? Everything I read online tells me it should be a thing of the past by the time she turns 1 but I really don't think we can survive another 6 months of this hell. I feel guilty for bringing her into this world and watching her suffer. My husband and I are distraught that we cannot help our daughter. All 3 of us are miserable.

Omeprazole or Famotidine?

Please no comments opposing either medication or telling me I don’t need them — I’m only considering a short trial to help things settle and heal. I also don't appreciate fear mongering in this subreddit against these medications when they exist to help people live their lives again and get some normality back. But I respect people's decision not to take medication either for their personal reasons which is why I hope to be respected as well.

I’m young, generally healthy, and not overweight, but I’m worried about losing more weight because I’ve had to cut back so much on fat and other foods. I’ve already tried dietary changes: plain foods like chicken, rice, carrots, oats, alkaline water, cutting caffeine, etc., but I’m still waking up with a sore throat and dealing with symptoms throughout the day, including a bad taste in my mouth.

My specialist has offered me the option of either medication, and I’d really appreciate hearing from people who have tried one or both. Did you find one worked better than the other? Were there any noticeable differences in side effects or effectiveness?

Thanks in advance.

Misdiagnosed

Everything started two months ago with air hunger, which caused me a great deal of panic. I went to a pulmonologist and was told that I have asthma. She gave me an inhaler, but it didn't work. Then, I started to feel throat tightness, difficulty swallowing, and pressure on my chest. I went to an ENT, who told me I might have LPR and prescribed a PPI. I started taking the PPI and changed my diet, but it did not get any better; the PPI actually made me worse.

In the meantime, I realized that when I shower, eat, or talk, my air hunger disappears. I also realized that I was breathing manually, which was causing hyperventilation. I stopped taking the PPI and returned to my normal diet. I then went to a psychiatrist, who prescribed Xanax and an SSRI. I remember the day I took Xanax for the first time I felt normal again, and my breathing was fine, just like before. My other symptoms also disappeared by time.

The psychiatrist told me that I have OCD and health anxiety. My air hunger only happens when I focus on my breathing, but it is not constant after all. During this time, I read many things online and on Reddit, which led me to notice more symptoms in myself, but it was all anxiety.
