Can A PPI Cause Increased Agitation/Anxiety After Five Days Use

Been on prescription Prilosec for five days now.

I've been in a state of fight or flight from an LPR flare up for two months now. During the five days, I've come out of the state of fight or flight a little bit but today felt like some kind of new panic was setting in.

I have been on the PPI for just five days. Is it possible it is adding to the agitation or is it just the LPR symptoms? I feel incredibly jittery. I really want to try a PPI for 4 to 8 weeks to see if it can help with the LPR, but I'm having a hard time distinguishing between mental health symptoms from the condition or side effects from the pill.

Could this be GERD related?

so I was diagnosed mild GERD about three weeks ago. I had excessive burping, upper back pain, some blood pressure fluctuations and tight chest. I started taking famotidine and azelestine (for eustacian tube dysfunction) and the past three days my upper back pain has increased (was going away) and I’ve had a headache.
is this possibly from the GERD? Is this what people would say a “flare up” is? Or maybe a side effect of medication? I’ve never had headaches like this prior.

my body is falling apart :(

LPR / silent reflux – stuck in constant throat-clearing cycle + overwhelming feeling in public. How did you deal with this?

Hey everyone,
I’ve been dealing with what seems to be LPR for about a month and a half now. On twice-daily pantoprazole (40 mg) for a few weeks and using Gaviscon Advance.
Some things have improved – the big burping waves are less forceful and more subtle now, and the chest discomfort is more manageable with ibuprofen. But two things are still really hard and I could use advice from people who’ve been through it.

  1. The throat-clearing cycle
It builds like pressure and I feel like I have to clear every 20–30 seconds. Brief relief, then it starts again. Especially bad in the car (even short journeys), when I’m tired, or in any slightly enclosed space. I’ve tried sipping water instead but when it’s strong it feels almost impossible not to clear. How did you break this cycle? Did anything actually help reduce the urge?
  2. Feeling overwhelmed in normal public places
Shops, being driven, louder environments, even a haircut feels really difficult. It’s not pure panic attacks – I’m relatively calm – but there’s this heavy, uneasy, sensory-overload feeling that makes me want to leave. Driving myself is a bit better than being a passenger, and I’m better on my feet than sitting in a car. Still nowhere near ready for public transport or anything longer. How long did this part take to improve for you? What helped you cope or get your tolerance back?
I’m doing the usual stuff (consistent PPI, Gaviscon, elevating for sleep, trying not to clear, earlier meals) but these two symptoms are still dominating and I’m finding it pretty draining.
Would really appreciate hearing what worked (or didn’t) for anyone who had the strong clearing cycle and the “normal places feel overwhelming” side of LPR. How long did it take for those to settle for you?
    Thanks.

P.S - I’m from Europes I the medication names will differ to other places!

Is this serious enough to go get checked?

For the past month I’ve noticed that after eating maybe ten-thirty minutes after, I will get this deep burning feeling that crawls up my throat and into my neck. I don’t really get heartburn so I didn’t suspect anything but this is happening everyday now and I’m starting to get worried. It’s not painful but it’s highly uncomfortable especially when I can feel it coming. What medications other than Pepcid do they even give for this?

Acid reflux & GI issues after quitting?

Has anyone else experienced bad acid reflux and stomach issues after quitting vaping? I’m a few days shy of being nicotine free for a month after vaping for 8 years, but I’ve had acid reflux and stomach issues basically the whole time after quitting. I’ve never dealt with any issues like this before quitting so it feels to me like it has to be linked to quitting??

\*I’ve been taking esomeprazole for almost 2 weeks now & it’s helped some with the reflux but not 100%

Relief after cutting tiggers?

Hi all,

TLDR: I’m wondering how long after cutting a trigger food I can expect to feel relief.

I’ve been dealing with worsening reflux and heartburn for months. At first, it would only pop up during the evenings and was a minor inconvenience. Now, it’s almost constant. I take digestive supplements before every meal, papaya enzymes after every meal, and tums when it’s really bad. It’s still getting worse. I can’t connect it to any specific food since it’s so constant, so I’m trying eliminating the foods I eat most often to see if anything helps. I usually eat a big bowl of oatmeal topped with fruit and nuts every day for breakfast, so I’ve stopped for a few days that in case it’s the oats or nuts. No change so far. So I’m wondering, if any of you have had a similar experience, how long did it take after you cut out a trigger food for you to feel relief and realize that it WAS the trigger?
Note- I already avoid gluten, egg, peanuts, and pork.

First Dose of Prescription Omeprazole Gave Me a Headache

I took my first dose of prescription Omeprazole yesterday after it was confirmed through testing acid reflux could be causing my throat symptoms. It was a 20 milligram dose. Took in the morning. I ended up getting a really bad headache by nighttime. Will the headaches stop or should I try a different PPI?

How much acid reflux medication is too much?

I seem to be having a hard time controlling acid reflux, so my GI told me to take Omeprazole in the evening and in the morning 40 mg each plus I take Cholestyramine in the afternoon, I feel like it's a lot of acid reflux medication does anyone else have to take that much or is it possibly something else going on, any thoughts would be appreciated.

Endoscopy Worsened/Caused Symptoms?

31(m).

No real symptoms of GERD or reflux in general over the years, aside from very occasional globular feeling. Had an endoscopy due to a persistent tight, gnawing sensation below my ribcage (still undetermined cause), and in having that done I was diagnosed with <1cm Barrett’s.

Since the endoscopy, which was about three weeks ago, I have had persistent regurgitation and a globular feeling, making it feel like I am short of breath and that something is stuck in my throat. I had heartburn and burping off and on as well after the endoscopy, but the heartburn went away after about 5 days, and the burping is still happening but not as frequent.

I have cut out everything from diet that is a potentially known trigger, and I have changed to left-side sleeping. I am on 40 mg PPI.

Has anyone else had symptoms start to actually appear after the endoscopy? I guess I was largely asymptomatic before or had silent GERD, but now I am very much having near-constant symptoms in some form or another.

Tum alternative?

So I read somewhere that if you take tums to much, your body will over compensate and make more acid. Now I’m not sure how true that is but what I know is.. I’ve are ate a lot of tums this past month. If it’s my severe bile reflux or GERD I don’t know.

I’ve taken, tums, pepto, and I was on omeprazole and now I’m on pantoprozle. Currently trying out raft off of Amazon, it’s good for the most part. I’ve tried teas. Oh also wonder belly’s, I didn’t like those that much.

Is there any alternatives or is this all we got?

I’m really needing to burp and it’s not happening and I think my body is so used to tums now.

Omeprazole

I have been experiencing GI issues for about a year now, I have been diagnosed with endometriosis so I believe that is the cause but before I knew this I got put on 20mg omeprazole to stop my nausea and acid reflux. It took me several months to get myself to take it because I was so anxious about it. I never really wanted to be on it because of the horror stories I'd heard about coming off it but eventually I relented because my parents and doctors said it would cure me (spoiler alert, no such luck). Unfortunately I think the doctor forgot I was on it or something because rather than six weeks, I have been on it for five months. I asked about it today and they told me to wean off of it but I am really anxious about the rebound symptoms. How screwed am I, for how long, and what can I do to make it easier? Are there any things I shouldn’t be eating apart from chocolate, tomato, acidic things etc? Would sugary things like dried banana chips and other fruit be okay? I’m off to university really soon so is this going to be a problem that ruins my first few months there?

Can a capsule supplement cause reflux?

I am one who usually suffers from LPR, not regurgitation. But last night, I took my magnesium glycinate supplement right before bed. i usually wait an hour after taking it to lie down, but I had forgotten and chucked it in, then lay right down. Maybe an hour or two later I woke up with reflux. This is rare for me, so I'm wondering if the supplement caused it. It is capsule form. Has anyone else had a similar experience, specifically after taking a pill or capsule at bedtime?

I wish I would’ve never taken PPIs

I (25F) was put on 40 mg of omeprazole by an ENT because he thought I had LPR. Took it once a day for about 4-6 weeks. He took me off of it because he now thinks I have something entirely unrelated to LPR (didn’t even recommend a taper, which is crazy after reading up on it). I did taper over a month and a half and started having bad rebound symptoms a week after starting. The first 4 weeks were brutal: constant burning, bloating, and burping. 5th and 6th week I noticed that my symptoms seemed to be improving to the point that I didn’t need Gaviscon to function and thought “wow this is finally over”. Well, end of 6th going into this 7th week my symptoms have been horrible. Kinda feels as intense as it did during those first 4 weeks but I’ve tried to stay strong and not go back on them. Pepcid and Gaviscon have been my lifeline this past week. Needless to say I will never touch another PPI and will be going to see a different ENT.

With that being said, I honestly don’t know what to do anymore. It feels like this will never end. I’ve had to put my life on pause for the last 2 months because of this and it’s affected my mental health a lot. It normally would be something I could handle but I am a professional singer at the height of my career and the rebound reflux has really done a number on my voice. It’s been really awkward having to explain to my boss and collaborators why I can’t work every time the rebound gets worse after feeling better for a day or two. I’ve even been following a strict bland diet and it’s still debilitating in some moments. I just want my life back. I never felt like this before starting Omeprazole. I know everyone’s different but when did things start to look up for you in your PPI rebound journey? Hoping someone can give me some hope.

Getting Manometry and 24-PH Test Done Next Week

I'm getting these two tests done on Tuesday next week. Will do the Manometry early in the morning then they will set me up for the PH test. I'm super nervous about these. Are these tests brutal?

I have been dealing with LPR symptoms like sore throat, inflamed vocal cords, throat clearing, and mucus/film in my throat after meals since June, and trying to get the full scope of what is going on. I have already done the endoscopy and they said I have a 1 CM hiatal hernia with an LES in Hill Grade III and also minor gastritis, but I don't have any acid damage in my esophagus.

I'm hoping these tests yield more results showing why the LPR symptoms are happening, but I'm worried that if they don't see any evidence of acid, they will just disregard the symptoms I've been having. Everyone keeps saying these LPR symptoms are from gas and pepsin reflux and not acid, so I don't know if a trial of a PPI would help at all. I kind of doing this to potential set myself for surgery if symptoms don't improve. The diet that I'm is not sustainable forever.

Extreme acid reflux - toddler

Age/Gender: Toddler

Main Issues: Chronic/recurrent vomiting of undigested food, cough-triggered emesis, loss of appetite, morning bile/mucus, frequent nosebleeds during dry-heaving.

Hi everyone. I’m looking to see if any parents or medical professionals have experienced a similar pattern with their little ones while we work closely with our doctors.

What we are seeing:

Extreme Delayed Digestion: He can eat solid, dense foods (like chicken meatballs, pancakes, or dosas) and throw them up completely undigested 8+ hours later. It feels like his stomach simply isn't emptying solids.

Cough-Triggered Vomiting: He gets coughing fits (he has a history of pneumonia), and because the dense food sits in his stomach, the cough instantly triggers his gag reflex and forces everything up.

Bile & Gastric Mucus: On days he doesn’t have solid food left, he will dry-heave up to 10 times in a morning, bringing up clear, sticky mucus, saliva, and yellow bile.

Sudden Nosebleeds: During or after these intense vomiting and dry-heaving episodes, he develops brief nosebleeds. We suspect the pressure from dry-heaving and throat irritation is popping delicate nasal vessels.

Poor Appetite: He has very little interest in eating solids, which makes sense given how uncomfortable his digestion is.

Questions for the community / doctors here:

Has anyone’s child shown these exact symptoms and been diagnosed with Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EoE), Gastroparesis (delayed stomach emptying), or Severe Silent Reflux (GERD)?

What specific diagnostic tests (e.g., Upper Endoscopy/EGD, Gastric Emptying Study, Swallow Study) made the biggest difference in getting you answers?

How did you manage nutrition and hydration when your toddler kept rejecting solids or throwing them up hours later?

Did medication (like Zofran for acute vomiting or acid reducers/motility meds) help break the cycle for your child?

Thank you so much for any insights, shared experiences, or guidance on what questions to push for with our pediatric GI specialist.

Tldr : Chronic/recurrent vomiting of undigested food, cough-triggered emesis, loss of appetite, morning bile/mucus, frequent nosebleeds during dry-heaving. Any suggestions

Reflux Stop

Hi all. Has anyone else heard/read about a device called Reflux Stop? If so what are your thoughts on it? I have begged my gastro doc to consider putting me forward for the surgery but he seems very reluctant.
