Inspecting this 996.2 C4S. Any noises I need to worry about?

As title says. Two videos, one of the engine bay while idling cold and one while revving the engine while the engine is warm.

Help diagnosing noise from my 02 C4S?

Hi,

I would really appreciate any thoughts regarding this noise from my 02 C4S that has sprung up 2 days ago. It seems to be intermittent but always be there in some capacity when I’m driving around.

It has a relation to the engine speed as you can hear in the video, but won’t always be there when accelerating. As in, the noise can be happening when I am not on the throttle and just coasting.

It appears to be better once the oil/water temp comes up, however I can’t say this definitively.

Thanks!

C4S Manual - Aggressive clunk/thump under hard throttle at low RPM. Normal drivetrain lash?

Hi everyone, I’m a new owner of a 2002 manual 996 C4S. My car was very aggressively clunking at low rpm when aggressively hitting the throttle. I recently had my gearbox mount and guibo replaced which were in very bad condition. This cure a lot of the issue, but it still remains as detailed below:

When I hit the throttle hard at low RPMs (less than 2500rpm), there is a single, aggressive mechanical clunk/thump from the drivetrain.

I know I am technically lugging the engine, but my question is: when you do this in your manual 996, does it clunk aggressively like this due to the AWD driveline lash? Or should the car accelerate smoothly (albeit slowly because it is outside the power band) without the hard physical clunk?

I am coming from a 2017 Mazda MX-5, so I am trying to calibrate my expectations and figure out what is a normal 996 quirk that I have to adapt my driving style for versus a mechanical issue that I need to take it back to the shop for.

Thanks!
