Hi everyone,
I’m an Algerian medical graduate, and I’m trying to figure out the most realistic pathway to move to Europe and build my career there.
A bit about my background:
🇩🇿 Algerian, currently based in Algeria
🎓 Doctor of Medicine MD graduate from an Algerian medical faculty
🏥 Clinical internship/training experience in several specialties, including pediatrics, cardiology, urology, neonatology, and gynecology/obstetrics
💻 Comfortable with computers, Microsoft Office, Excel, Google Sheets and AI tools
📊 Good with data, organization, research and presentations
🌍 Fluent in Arabic and French, with good English
💼 Also interested in remote/online work and developing additional professional skills
My main goal is to move to Europe legally and eventually work there, preferably in healthcare, but I’m also open to other opportunities if they provide a realistic pathway to relocation.
I’ve considered countries such as Germany, France, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, Poland and Romania, but the recognition of an Algerian medical degree, language requirements, licensing exams, visas, and job opportunities make the situation quite complicated.
For people who have gone through a similar process:
What would you consider the most realistic European countries/pathways for someone with my background?
Would you recommend:
Getting my medical degree recognized and pursuing medical licensing?
Doing a Master’s/another degree in Europe?
Looking for healthcare-related non-clinical jobs?
Going through a work visa/job-seeker route?
Considering a country where the medical licensing process is relatively more accessible?
I’d especially appreciate advice from Algerian/North African doctors or international medical graduates who have successfully moved to Europe, including the approximate costs, timeline, language requirements, and biggest difficulties.
Thanks in advance!
I’m genuinely asking people who’ve been in this situation or have seen it firsthand.
Before anyone says it: please don’t give me the usual “it’s all about confidence,” “personality matters most,” “just be yourself,” or “looks don’t matter” speeches. I’ve heard them a thousand times, and they don’t really answer what I’m asking.
I’m talking about reality. If you’re unattractive, socially awkward, and your hobbies are mostly nerdy, how much of a disadvantage are you actually at? Have any of you managed to get past that, or is it just significantly harder than people like to admit?
I’m interested in honest experiences, not feel-good clichés.
