Transitioning between positions

Edit - going to keep it more simple with just 1 question and then post the others separately:

How long should someone stay in their position after becoming perm to not burn bridges?

MCP IC Fixed-Term - Likelihood of getting terminated?

MCP IC Fixed-Term employee here.

I realized how much being in a union actually matters. I’ve seen several ppl get fired with payout for cause but also for things taken out of context…and management just didn’t like them.

I’m feeling uneasy as I have no home position but my manager has said my performance is good generally. They are interested in keeping me but was dismayed I plan on staying not for YEARS on YEARS. I was honest and said after making it my home, I would stay another year or so. Was this a bad move? I’m still pretty new to the workforce and am learning. Based on their reaction, I think it was…they are looking for someone to stay for 3-5 years more.

That being said, I am also job-searching as I don’t like some aspects of the culture and environment. I’ve done a few interviews and I feel my manager might have heard from one of the hiring managers that I’m interviewing but hasn’t mentioned it to me. If I was in a union I wouldn’t think too much about this, but I’m worried because I’m MCP IC that I can get 2 weeks notice if they find out I’m job searching…or think up a reason to just fire me.

Am I overthinking or am I in an unstable situation?

Edit: I’ve been here less than a year, but it’s almost been 1 year. MCP Individual Contributors whose contract will end don’t have access to the internal job board if they worked for less than 1 year.

AMAPCEO FXT get 2 years of internal job board access.

My main concern is staying internal to continue having access to the internal job board. I’ve gotten many interviews for all kinds of levels and I feel I can continue staying employed no matter what happens if I’m internal. Even for a data entry role or something - as long as I’m internal.
