Yesterday I got a random YT video suggestion about a Adobe Photoshop clone that is Linux native, decided out of curiosity to check what it is the deal, turns out to be rather good. Interface's looking almost identical to PS, even the hotkey layout is kind of similar. Thing's called Photon Studio, its free - no ads I've seen anywhere on the screen yet, no limitations either so far (maybe there are some down the road?)

Anyone ever came across this thing before?

Lately the more I use Thunar, the more I find it rather limited...

- no way to have tree view and shortcuts together
- no way to add extra columns for audio/video files
- file rename feature opens a friggin window instead of being inline

...and a lot more I'm yet to find lacking, I'm afraid.

Given the fact, what alternative would you suggest me that works just the way MS explorer does, sort of, which wouldn't require installing shitton of dependencies to work?

Only thing I tried so far is Cinnamon's Nemo - works but haven't tested much. PCManFM haven't tried. Dolphin works as well except it comes with ~10 dependency packages.

Tried everything I could think of with it, I can't make the "Popup option" work. No matter how you try to add apps to the popup menu, nothing happens, and stacking icons in the taskbar makes it become cluttered mess. Unfortunately there's no other working alternative one could use, not for Plasma 6 at least.

Anyone else experienced this?

Having checked KDE Store and the Widgets library, I can't find a quicklauncher alternative for Plasma 6. All I come across is full-screen launchers and start menu replacements, nothing of this kind which lets you add apps to a dropdown menu and have them categorized in folders for ease of access.

I've tried the stock Quicklauncher widget. It works but doesn't allow for stacking and lacks option for folder nesting.

I'm on the verge of giving up on this whole concept of installing Linux in virtual environment to test app compatibility and general use (for when the moment comes to ditch Windows 10).

1. Installed latest version of VirtualBox

2. Made a new VM, installed Fedora 43 Official on it with 100 gb hard drive

3. Had to install Guest Additions through Terminal (since the latest VB version says you have to download it separately... in the error box that pops up when you go Devices > Install Guest Additions) via Terminal with the following commands

sudo dnf upgrade -y
sudo dnf install -y kernel-devel kernel-headers dkms gcc make bzip2 perl
sudo dnf install virtualbox-guest-additions

4. Rebooted

6. Created a shared folder in Devices > Shared Folders menu, made it auto-mount

7. Added my Fedora user to the vboxsf user group or at least I think so

sudo usermod -a -G vboxsf $USER

5. Somehow copy/pasting between Win & Fedora works, but I can't share files. Not by drag & dropping, not even when going to the Windows' Network section in the File Explorer - nothing shows up there. File sharing is enabled on Windows...

I've been trying to make this work for the past hour and half and I can't make it. What should I do....

Decided to try the distro in Live USB environment, see if couple Windows apps I use on Win 10, work with NB. Alas I can't install Bottles.

If I try through the DNF, upon clicking "Install" the user/pw pop up window appears for a millisecond and closes itself, preventing me from continuing

If I try through the Konsole, terminal starts dropping errors for insufficient free space.

I don't have access to another PC where I can install the distro. This one I'm working from is Win 10 based and if I want to dual-boot I have to literally uninstall 10 and reformat my C drive as my system is partitioned in two (C and D).

Guess I'm fked?

Installed Kate yesterday as I found it easier to work with multiple files than Notepad++ I was using for decades... now it turns out the Diff tool can't display cyrillic text properly.

Having to switch the encoding through the bottom bar to UTF-8 doesn't work as UTF-8 doesn't support cyrillic. Encoding should stay CP1251. How does one make it work? This issue only occurs when one tries to compare files. Outside of that, the editor works as it should.

What I tried:

1. Resaved the file in Kate - no change

2. Changed the Encoding to UTF-8 and back to CP1251 - no change

This may sound dumb but whatever. I'm looking to have Kate's Find & Replace bar that pops up when you press CTRL+R, pinned to the bottom side of the app. By design, it appears per document only when you trigger it with the hotkey, though I want it to be always visible, across all opened files.

Went through the settings twice, checked every dropdown menu. Nothing I could find doing this. I bet its not possible? Although, given its a Linux native app and knowing Linux is all about customization, one would think it should be, but who knows...

All guides out there I see involve the use of a Git repo, don't need that. My aim is to make my vault into a static website to browse offline across different PCs. Little help needed here for someone who isn't a CLI geek....

Lately I've been looking for a Win Explorer alternative and out of all I came to like Q-Dir a lot for its simplicity. However, it has that fkin Windows-y glitch where when you're opening folders, for a millisecond you see a white screen - and it gets frustrating with time.

I've mailed the developer couple months ago - didn't get anything back from him.

This is the only app where I see this happen. Tried every other free/opensource alternative. Is it a Win32 app related issue or it can be fixed user-wise, you think?
