Just finished "Wrath of Iron" by Chris Wraight
And I have a few thoughts.
First off, shout out to Chris Wraight. I think that he just might be the one of the most consistent black library author based on my experience so far. Not necessarily the best, but I'll take consistency any day of the week.
Second, this book (along with Damnation of Pythos being one of my biggest surprises while reading the HH series) has left me even more desperate for more Iron Hands lore. I don't understand why they don't get more books. They are really awesome in their own fucked up way. Also with so many chapters being varying degrees of noble bright, it would be nice to see more from a chapter that's just a bunch of brutally effective, sociopathic bastards. And they are VERY effective.
Third, I think one reason why I really like this book is that while the "good guys" do win and you get a lot of "space marines doing cool shit" that I (and presumably most of us) really enjoy, what really hits home is the tragedy of the iron hands as a chapter. The very thing that technically makes them arguably more effective is also what results in so much unnecessary losses and compounding trauma.
Anyways, a solid read. I hope someone can convince GW to give the Iron hands more love. They deserve it.
