Pharmacy Issues
So I guess this is a bit of a rant but also looking for advice. We are new to the T1D community and my 6 year old was just diagnosed in February of this year. We currently fill out prescriptions through Publix but I feel like the way they have been operating is just not ok. There have been several instances where there were issues with a prescription and there is always ZERO communication. Example 1, I requested a refill of the pen needles for my child along with all of his other supplies that he needs. I get to the store to pick everything up and I list out everything that’s supposed to be in the bag and the woman at the counter is like yes everything is here. I grab the bag and walk off and go to give my kid some insulin because he was running a tad bit high. I look through the supplies and no needles. I go back to the counter and tell them the issue and they research it and tell me the insurance wouldn’t cover the again until the following month. Sooooooo…….where was the communication to let me know that? They just sent a T1D child away from a pharmacy with insulin and no way to administer said insulin. I feel like the proper thing to do would be to communicate that and give me the choice to pay out of pocket or not. Luckily we had more at home but I did end up telling the to just charge me cash price. So I ended up paying $76 for a box of needles (which is insane but that’s another conversation anyway). Today I had requested another refill of basal insulin and dexcoms. I called to check the status and she tells me the insurance doesn’t cover lantus so they faxed the doctor to ask them for a prescription for basaglar instead. 😒 Needless to say I let her have it because WTF. Not only is it NOT the same insulin but who are they to decide to switch someone’s prescription ? Again no communication whatsoever and she had the issue wrong anyway. It was a timing issue with insurance. Needless to say I’m livid. Long story short…..looking for better pharmacy recommendations. I hear mail order pharmacies are better but I’m afraid of having insulting mailed because sometimes the mail carriers drop the ball with packages too. Any recommendations?
Edit to add: the Lantus is definitely still covered. It was a timing issue and they just didn’t pay attention to what they were doing. Which makes this even more infuriating.
TLDR: Publix has dropped the ball one too many times. Looking for a new pharmacy.
