Japanese vinyl insert for "Iron Maiden" (1980) has completely wrong lyrics for Phantom of the Opera — anyone know why?
I have a Japanese pressing of Iron Maiden's self-titled debut, and the lyric insert included transcriptions of all the songs in English (with Japanese translations alongside). Most of the tracks match up fine with the actual lyrics, but the "Phantom of the Opera" transcription is way off from the real song — different lines, different structure, doesn't match what Di'Anno actually sings at all.
Has anyone else noticed this with their Japanese pressing? Was this a common issue with lyric inserts back then (bootleg-style transcriptions made by ear, translation agencies not having access to real lyric sheets, etc.)? Curious if this was specific to this pressing or a wider issue with Japanese EMI releases from that era.
