Early post-Soviet Belarusian woodworking kit for kids.

Not sure about possible modifications before I got my hands on it, but the quality is pretty low overall. The square is not square (the two parts are moving slightly). The plane has a really weird wedge that doesn't go all the way down and barely pins the blade. The blade itself is skewed in a "resting state" - if I just let it drop down by itself, it's pretty snug to the sides, but the edge is not parallel to the sole.

However!

I think the whole concept of making actually usable toy tools for making something with your own hands right from the childhood is really nice. It's supposedly a toy kit, but the blades are very much real.

How do I approach restoring the flat edge on these mortise chisels?

Hey! I don't have a lot of experience in chisel maintenance or woodworking in general, and really need an advice.

Got a pair of mortise chisels at a local flea market (for about $3 each). They are in a pretty good shape, heavy and feel pretty durable. However, seems like they were not sharpened correctly - there's an arch on the back side of the tools (visible on the second photo) and it's the case for both. They also have arcs on the cutting edge and on the bevel, but I think it's an easy fix.

What I don't know is how to approach fixing the back of the blade. One option is to grind away a lot of the blade, basically "erasing" the arch (option 1, red), but I am afraid the blade will either get overheated if I use my grinder or will take too much time to hand-remove this much material. Another option is to re-plain the whole blade, making it thinner (option 2, green), but I am afraid to make the chisel thinner. Or maybe this arc is not a big deal anyway and I can just use it as is (after fixing the "easy" arcs?).

If anyone had experience of fixing this issue in the past and can share that would help a ton. Thanks.
