Got my X-Dome 1

Happy to report I got my X-Dome 1, but it was more stressful than getting my Maroon Bells permit. I kept refreshing until my preferred option became available. Looking forward to taking it on lots of adventures.

X-Dome 1 for a beginner?

Hi all,
In short, I am an older (43F) backpacking beginner with lots of outdoor experience. My goal is to start with one nighters and see where my journey takes me. I already know that I want a free standing tent which I can also use for other types of activities I love (kayak camping). I am aiming for a light base weight, not getting into cutting every g. The only other tent I have which could be suitable for backpacking is a REI half dome 2p which might be too heavy for 1p.
So my question is, is it a good idea to get a Durston right away, if I can get one at the next release, or would you recommend testing the waters with a used backpacking tent before committing. Any thoughts are appreciated.
