I tried GW2 again BUT this time…
I’m one of those who have played GW2 on and off for years but never played more than 2-3 months at a time. I’ve never been able to get hooked the way I would like to.
Every time I came back, I played the game a very specific way:
-make new character
-skip ALL cut scenes
-don’t read ANYTHING
-rush level 80
-do open world content with groups
-quit
Zero context, zero connection to the game, zero connection to my character or the story.
Yesterday I decided to try GW2 yet again but this time I wanted to force myself to watch every cut scene and read every conversation. So that I can finally go through the entire game, understanding the world and the why to everything.
HOLY SHIT!… I’m still in the very beginning but this sparked an entire new interest in the game for me.
I never even knew about 2-Blade Pete, although I’ve done the mission 20-30 damn times, what a dirt bag! I’m even upset a few people got sick because I decided to save my friend Quinn but I just had to help the homie.
And what do you mean my parents where important and now people want to kill me (I was ambushed in divinity reach).
I can’t wait to get home today and continue this story and the the next one and the next one…I feel this is exactly what I needed to finally get hooked…understanding the reason for everything around me, a connection I never cared for in any game, I just skip everything to get to the action, which I now regret so much.
No biggie, im here now and ready to learn so much more about this world that I’ve visited many times before but never cared to truly be part of it until now.
Hopefully there’s someone out there who had the same issue as me, who struggled to find a connection to the game because they skipped everything like me…Slow down and enjoy the story 🫡
