I built free IRC server hosting that requires no VPS or server maintenance
Hi everyone,
After building DiscordPGP, a browser extension that adds OpenPGP-based end-to-end encryption to Discord, I started working on the next project on my list: an end-to-end encrypted IRC client.
During development, I repeatedly needed temporary IRC servers to test connections, encryption, reconnections, and client compatibility. However, I did not want to rent, configure, secure, and maintain another VPS solely for testing with my friends.
So instead, I built a TCP IRC-to-WebSocket relay and designed a serverless IRC architecture that can use Firebase or Cloudflare Durable Objects as its backend.
Because the infrastructure consumes resources primarily when messages are transmitted, stored, or retrieved, the marginal cost of hosting an additional IRC server is extremely low (approximately $0.008 per million messages)
This means I can now provide free IRC server hosting to everyone so i made a site so you can create your own servers:
The project is still in its testing phase, so I am looking for people willing to try it with different IRC clients and usage patterns.
I would particularly appreciate feedback regarding:
- Connection stability and reconnection behavior
- Latency
- Compatibility with different IRC clients
- Channel and user management
- Unexpected protocol behavior or errors
- Performance under heavier usage
Bug reports, technical criticism, and general feedback would be greatly appreciated.

[Hiring] Philippines-based VA for standby photo compliance review - 500 PHP/day
Hello,
I’m hiring a Philippines-based Virtual Assistant for a low-volume standby photo review role.
You must currently live in the Philippines. Applications from outside the Philippines will not be considered.
The work consists of reviewing ID/passport-style photos and checking whether they comply with simple visual requirements: lighting, framing, face position, expression, hair visibility, accessories, image sharpness, and general quality.
Training, examples, and clear guidelines will be provided. Once trained, each photo usually takes around 1 minute to review.
This is not continuous work. It is a standby role. Most of the time, there may be no photos to review. When photos arrive, you need to review them quickly. During quiet periods, you can study, watch videos, relax, or do other work, as long as you stay available and responsive.
Schedule (Manila time):
Availability required every day from 4:00 PM to 5:00 AM Manila time.
Breaks:
6:00 PM to 7:00 PM Manila time
10:00 PM to 11:00 PM Manila time
Active standby blocks:
4:00 PM to 6:00 PM Manila time
7:00 PM to 10:00 PM Manila time
11:00 PM to 5:00 AM Manila time
Pay:
500 PHP per day
The role requires daily availability, including weekends. If you need to skip a day, you must notify me at least 48 hours in advance. Skipped days are unpaid.
There may also be an option to work a shorter schedule for lower pay if the shift is split between two people.
Ideal candidate:
- Based in the Philippines
- Reliable and responsive
- Detail-oriented
- Comfortable following visual guidelines
- Stable internet connection
- Basic English communication
- Experience with VA work, QA, moderation, data entry, customer support, or image review is helpful, but not mandatory
