Probably a stupid question...

I've seen videos which show starts with valves closed and open to show the different sounds. Maybe it's my MK8, but as far as I know, my car always defaults to start in 'sport' mode (valves half open?) as opposed to race mode where the valves are fully open.

I wasn't sure if there was a setting that could be adjusted to change the mode the car starts in, but if not, how are people able to do open/closed valve starts?

Stage 2 upgrade order - hardware first or tune immediately? (MK8 Golf R)

Just curious what everyone did when you went Stage 2.

I'm currently running a Stage 1 ECU/TCU tune and have a Miltek downpipe, IE intake, and Wagner intercooler ready to install.

Did you:

  • Have all the hardware installed and the Stage 2 tune flashed on the same day before driving the car?
  • Install all the hardware first and drive it for a while on your existing Stage 1 tune before getting the Stage 2 file?
  • Or do it in some other order?

I'm trying to work out the best approach. Ideally, I'd have the mechanic fit everything and then have the Stage 2 tune loaded before I leave, but coordinating the workshop and tuner on the same day might be a bit tricky.

Is it generally considered safe to drive with a Stage 1 tune after fitting a downpipe, intake, and intercooler, or is it something you'd avoid until the Stage 2 calibration is installed?
