Moin,

Playing my first game, need list/strat advice

Hey ho, after years of collecting and lurking i will finally send my roaches into battle and thus, i need the hivemind:

I will be playing my first games tomorrow (most likely against Khorne Chaos Demons and/or Astra Militarum (he LOVES their tanks) if thats relevant). The boys are usually playing 2k battles, but they'd be willing to scale down to 1.5k points, because i dont have enough stuff for 2k yet

First of all, i need help with a list, this is my whole inventory:

- 1x Neurotyrant
- 2x Winged Prime
- 20x Hormagants
- 20x Termagants
- 10x Neurogaunts
- 5x Barbgaunts
- 3x Von Ryan Leapers
- 1x Lictor
- 1x Psychophage
- 1x Norn Emissary
- 1x Screamer Killer
- 1x Casino Cannon (Tyrannofex)
- 2x Ripper Swarms

How would you guys make a list from that, especially for a newbie like me?

What is the best detachment (i thought about Invasion Fleet, because my available options feel too focus-less for a lot of the rest)? Any important enhancements? What are key strategems for those dudes?

And what would be weaknesses of my line-up that i should be aware of or strengths i should lean into? What is a basic strategy that i could or should try for a start?

I'd be very grateful for any kind of advice, so i can proudly represent the hive fleet to the best of my ability!

▲ 1 r/typing

My fingers have almost been "mapped" correctly, that's why i struggle even more with correct finger placement. I could use advise.

I am currently trying to force 10 finger typing upon my brain after years of being bothered by my botched typing style but i am really struggling with one specific thing.

For the last 20-ish years, i used a very stupid 8-ish finger technique that kind of just happened over the years, and i can squeeze 80 WPM out of it (dont need to look at the keyboard), which is okay enough to handle daily life, but i want more out of a skill that i use on a daily basis for hours in my office job.

I have the advantage that i intuitively know where each key is already without looking, so there is that, but my problem is: As a kid, i was using computers for gaming before doing anything else with it and when i started typing i just kept my hand like i was used to. Thus, from the classic WASD-controls of many games, it got used to a "home position" for my left hand that is offset by one to the left compared to real 10-finger typing, aka resting on D (index) ,S (middle) ,A (ring) and left shift (pinky). My right hand skips stupidly around the rightside 2/3's of the keys without a real "home position". If idle, the right hand rests mostly in the bottom right area (N, J, K, L, M, Semikolon, Dot, Comma) but it's not as fixed as my left hand.

Now the issue is, my muscle memory from my way of typing really melts my brain when i try to apply the 10 finger principles, because whenever my left pinky is supposed to press A, my brain just freezes, because my left pinky is wired to left shift so heavily and i really actively have to force my brain into the thought "PINKY IS (A), NOT SHIFT! PINKY IS (A), NOT SHIFT!" which obviously results in a huge thinking pause while typing and kills the flow because i have to actively think while typing which is (from my understanding) what you exactly NOT want to do to become quicker.

Similar problems with (S) and (D). There, my brain doesnt freeze/pause the same way (i guess because my ring, middle and index fingers are at least already defined as "letter fingers" from my brains perspective), but rather when i want to type an (S), but my fingers are positioned the 10-finger way, then my brain still sends the signal to my middle finger (as for my former hand position), but that unfortunately results in a (D)-press now.

My right hand is adapting somewhat nicely. Still tough to relearn things you already learned wrong, but i'd say my right hand is making "normal" progress and it doesnt feel like my brain is blocking anywhere, just uncommon, but for my left hand, i feel like it's even harder to rewire my brain, because my former home position is just so close to the right one that my brain thinks they are the same and always defaults to my old finger-key-mapping... Ive been doing this for a couple of weeks now (and i know this is not the longest time), with almost daily exercising, and i do see progress, just not for these specific issues that persist seemingly unchanged.

Well, my question is really only: Did someone face similar issues with a finger-key-mapping that was so close to the right one that it is really tough to recreate the muscle memory and if so, does it get better? How long did it take you guys to resolve this? I know you hear questions like this a lot, and i dont want to come across as another impatient dude that wants quick results without practise, it's just that these specific synaptic roadblocks just seem disproportianally strong compared to the normal struggles that i have apart from that naturally come with adapting to a new routine. I am just looking for advice if continueing to force myself through it is the right way or if there are special exercises that helped other people with this, so that i can motivate myself with the thought of being on the right path, even if it doesnt work out nicely yet.

What 6 months of CCU'ing do to a man... (am i done?)

Some context and two questions:

Context: I only discovered the "ccu game" during IAE 2025 after 9 years of playing this game and my little (actually) autistic self got hooked pretty quickly and i feel like it was just about the right time, because the Raft, Hull A and Hull B enabled pretty ridiculous discount (with prior notice even!), and the Railen is still to come. I saved about 70% on Galaxy and Ironclad and about 40% on the hornet.

Regarding my fleet: I am usually a solo player, but i am also in a mostly industrial org. So my #1 rule is that all of my ships have to be somewhat functional solo, but i also like to have to option to take people with me when the opportunity arises.

I enjoy hauling most. In theory, i also like mining (before 4.7 i loved it at least) and crafting, but mining is in a terrible state currently IMO, which also kills crafting for me, but hopefully that will change. I also like some occasional salvaging, FPS and combat gameplay but the latter more when done in multi-crew setups. In the future, i hope to enjoy medical, exploration and basebuilding gameplay as well. For the "civilian roles" (aka salvage and mining e.g.) i intend to buy all ships needed in game as i am pretty confident that LTI wont be needed on those (if LTI is needed at all lol), because they wont be destroyed as often as a fighter or ships that get in trouble more.

---

My first question: Is my fleet complete? I don't want to become someone to waste money into 25 different ships when i just use the same 5 ships the whole time anyway. I dont need 5 different fighters. Doesn't matter how sexy an L-22 Alpha Wolf is, when i always come back to my Hornet anyway. I know i have some overlaps between the Ironclad and the Galaxy, but tbh in that case i just fell in love with both and i do think that the versatility of the galaxy will make it's role in my fleet a bit clearer in the future, and i also already like the idea of taking it to FPS missions as a respawn/medical support. I am also curious about the refinery and from what know, we will also get a basebuilding and crafting module some day. The ironclad will be used more in conjunction with other vehicles, e.g. Golem, Salvation or the Hornet to restock/repair them or take their cargo or for big cargo hauls.

My second question: I do have near complete CCU chains in place for an RSI Hermes and a Gatac Railen (only one LTI token (MDC) though currently). I kinda like both ships as well, but in this case i kinda think there is too much overlap to make it worth actually using them and if i have to chose, the ships i already have win that comparison. The hermes is just a bigger C1 or a smaller Galaxy in cargo terms. And the Railen is pretty much the same SCU as the Galaxy (with Cargo Module). Yes easier cargo access, yes alien aesthetics, but minus the versatility which is THE coolest thing about the galaxy. I'd still be very grateful for any input still on those ships, maybe you guys have some things i didn't think about.
