Two similar panels

401 vs 430

Similar panels depicting different feelings and realities.

In panel 401, we see Ruka maturing. She is longing for something as she thinks of Kazuya, the guy she loves. She planned to take a new step forward—with him, and only him. There was both desire and love there. Even if her feelings weren't fully reciprocated emotionally, the physical connection made it worth accepting the role of "second choice" just to have that.

Between 401 and 430, she lived in a sort of dream; she didn't get exactly what she wanted, yet she still made significant progress in their relationship. She came to believe that the "second choice" would become the "first choice," and eventually, the *only* one. She thought she was closer to his heart than ever before. She believed sex would bring them closer—that with every encounter, she would break down the walls around his heart until she completely took the place of her rival, Chizuru. It seemed like only a matter of time.

In panel 430, we see her after discovering that he remains deeply attached to her rival—the person he loves and has always loved. None of the steps she took ever truly threatened the rival's position as the one who held his heart, and likely no future step she could take would achieve that either. All the emotion and fantasy she had been living evaporated, leaving behind nothing but pure disillusionment. She never really moved forward; she could stir his body, but never his heart. Now, she is in much the same position as in the first panel, but with completely different expectations. She is about to answer a call from her rival, already knowing what is likely coming next.

I haven't read the spoilers for the next chapter—and I won't—but I’d say the end of Ruka’s one-sided relationship and her dream is imminent.

Something few people are talking about

Seriously, where is that big final wave that was supposed to start—the one coinciding with that grim look on Umi's face—but which ends with him making *that* kind of goofy grimace after so many others?

Am I the only one who's confused?

Seriously, how did Umi go from that to that?

I always defended Umi from criticism that I considered exaggerated, as if he were the male Mami. When he talked to Kazuya and acknowledged defeat, he seemed very nice, and I can't see how his smile could be fake. Now, with the narration in the last volume that a new wave is rising and with Umi's first panel in a darker tone, it's hard to think that Reiji is baiting us by falsely believing that two antagonists are joining forces. What he would gain is what I want to understand because Chizuru clearly doesn't want him; it's not just because she already likes Kazuya.

Note: I believe Ruka contacted him first, even though the idea for this meeting was his.

In chapter 187, we see Ruka resolved to prevent Kazuya from confessing his feelings at all costs, believing that Chizuru might accept them, which would mean game over for her (Ruka). Much (or little) has happened, and now I see her differently in at least two ways.

The first is that she no longer cares about being second. Actually, of course she does care; she wanted to be first and only, but now she thinks being second is better than not being with Kazuya, as if the magic formula to be with him is letting him be with the one he loves. She may have sacrificed some of her dignity and self-esteem for this, and even saying this only increased her advances towards Kazuya in that fateful chapter. The second is that she also wants sex, but no longer as a weapon to trap Kazuya; she wants it because her body is feeling the need for it. Of course, she's thinking carefully because she insists it be with the guy she loves (when she could have anyone). And she's still in a loop because the mere fact that Kazuya says she should have someone better (someone who loves her too) makes her like him a little more (since he cares so much). And today it seems that Kazuya being with Chizuru or another girl would just be a detail for her, no longer the end.

I think my post is more of a rant because today I don't know how Reiji would make Ruka give up in a way that actually seemed believable.

Those thighs and the sides of those buttocks are a privileged and, at the same time, insanely hot sight
