My 2013 did not pass inspection (NC) - 2 errors

Well, it’s a 2013 SE (I guess) with a failed turbo pump, a “check engine” light on, and it’s been reporting errors P2181 and P0299. I deleted some of the errors with a basic diagnostic tool from Walmart, and the check engine light went off, but those errors are not going away and can not be deleted with the tool that I have.

Took it to the usual state inspection place in Charlotte (it worked the last 2 years), but it failed. Supposedly it’s the emissions and coolant, and they suggested to drive it for a while and try again after 60-70 miles (I barely drove prior to taking it for inspection, it’s a back up car).

The VW service estimate is ~$11k (turbo pump being one of the issues), and the KBB estimate is like $2,500, so definitely not repairing it.

I have until the end of August to fix it, otherwise the only option I see is selling the car (marketplace, junk, maybe parts)…

Just venting , I guess, since I wasn’t planning on getting a new (used) car, but if there are any suggestions, thank you.

Trane XR - Low Pressure Switch / Refrigerant - am I being overcharged

My Trane XR 4TWR4036G1000AA stopped blowing called air. Local (Charlotte, NC) technician came, and after checking the capacitor and power supply, he diagnosed the low pressure switch SWT03876 to be the issue.

He bypassed the switch, and it's working now as a temporary fix until they replace it.

I've been waiting for them for 9 days to source the part, so I looked it up, and it's about $100 on Partstown.

I called them to ask about their ETA, and I don't really care if they get the switch or not (they told me that I can actually source it).

My question is that the service told me they would need to replace not just the switch, but also the refrigerant (8.5 lbs of R410A) at $109/lb and that the labor was going to be $525 (2.5 hrs) - so a total of $1,556.

I looked it up, and unless I'm missing something, here is what I found out:

The low pressure switch typically screws directly onto a Schrader valve (access port) on the compressor's suction line. Because it screws onto a Schrader port, the refrigerant does not need to be recovered, allowing for a quick swap.

and

10 lbs of refrigerant is $189 online (not allowed to post links).

Thoughts - am I being taken for a ride here (it's a small, local company that I've used a few times)

Charlotte canvas tote bag

Traveling tomorrow abroad, and I got some gifts for our business partners.
I thought it’d be nice to get some Charlotte or NC printed canvas bags and present the gifts in those.

The only place that I found to supposedly have them is Mint Museum, but maybe Paper Skyscrapers too?

Any other place I can check (airport would be too late, since I will have already checked in).

Thanks.

Charlotte, NC

Just released him in the woods. My wife found him in an open bag of soil in our shed, hope he wasn’t stuck there too long.
