What actually makes a good ergonomic chair for an illustrator?

My workspace is squeezed right next to my bed so I don't really have room for one of those massive office chairs. Meanwhile, I'm also an illustrator, which means one of my hand is constantly drawing and the other is reaching for keyboard shortcuts. My old chair never supported both positions properly turns out I usually end the day with a sore neck and back. I recently switched to a more adjustable chair, and being able to position each armrest separately has been especially helpful since my drawing arm and keyboard arm need different kinds of support.

Curious.. What features do you guys actually look for in an ergonomic chair?

Standing desk + walking pad: the setup details that actually matter

I’ve been using a standing desk + walking pad setup for a while now, and I have to say it made a bigger difference than I expected. After switching between sitting, standing, and walking throughout the day, my posture feels much better, and my shoulders and neck don’t feel nearly as tense by the end of the day.

For anyone considering this setup, here are a few things I learned:

  1. Get a walking pad that can be folded.

Mine is comfortable to walk on, has good cushioning, and is quiet enough that it doesn’t bother me during work. The only downside is that it doesn’t fold, so every time I want to sit down, I have to move it away first. A foldable one that can slide under the desk would make the whole setup much easier to use.

  1. More height presets on the standing desk are better.

I didn’t realize this before buying, but I actually use different heights for different situations: standing still, walking, sitting for work, and sitting for entertainment. Having at least 4 memory settings would make switching between them much easier. The desk I’m using now happens to have exactly enough presets for the way I use it.

  1. Desk stability matters more than I expected.

When you’re walking while working, your body already has some movement. If the desk itself shakes every time you touch it, it makes looking at the screen uncomfortable. The desk I’m using has been great in this area, and I also like that it has a fixed side surface where I can keep things that shouldn’t move up and down, like my water bottle or snack bowl.

If you’re considering a similar setup, feel free to ask anything. Happy to share what I’ve learned so far.

time to make my bedroom feel less empty

My bedroom has looked like p1 for the past two years. It’s been fine and functional, but lately it’s started to feel a little too plain and cold for me. Then I saw the inspo photo in p2 and realized I want something more personal and elevated. I love how much more intentional it looks. I'm thinking of swapping my low platform bed for an upholstered one with a headboard. Adding fabric texture should make the white walls feel less bare. Is changing the bed frame enough, or should I look at lighting and curtains right away?

does anyone know if there are any of those character companion devices on display at AX?

Friend sent me this pic from an anime expo overseas. Brands like Gatebox, Lynook, Dipal were showing off these desktop companion things — basically a fully customizable Alexa but built around emotional connection and character customization instead of being useful. It let you bring in your own models, modify the personality, it speaks and responds to hand signals.Really want one but they aren't cheap. So I would rather see one in person first.Anyone know if AX or any other cons have demos like this? If so tell me where.
