I've read all the posts and advice for introducing new cats and everything but not anything like our situation.

We did the slow introduction over the course of many weeks. Resident cat is female and about 16 months old, new cat is male and 6 months.

They became great friends. Playing all the time, they even started grooming each other while cuddled up in a little bowl hammock on their tree. We did notice that the RC would make crazy fighting sounds for most play interactions like she didn't like it but then she would play stalk NC and re-initiate play without displaying any signs of distress while making the sounds so we thought it was ok. Eventually she stopped making the sounds ALMOST altogether.

Well then RC got a cut on her eye that got infected and her eye was swollen shut. Vet said infected laceration from bite or scratch. Then her other eye was looking weird and the vet said it was an ulcer from another puncture. She's been in pain and not feeling great but NC is not taking no for an answer and is constantly going at her. She can never relax. She normally sleeps with my girlfriend but he just randomly jumps on her and play attacks her all night making her scream and freak out.

Everywhere she goes or anywhere she's sleeping he finds her and attacks her to play, and he's also just way too rough. She is a tiny cat as she was a runt rescue off the side of the road so he's already bigger and stronger than her. She can never relax and never feel safe in her own home because he's just following her everywhere attacking her. Since these injuries she's been unable to just chill and now it seems like she hates him for it and they are no longer even close to friends.

She yowls and hisses anytime he is even near her even if she walks into his space. We are at our wits end and don't know what to do. My girlfriend is a teacher and is returning to school and we can't keep them penned up separated forever and have no idea how to move forward. We play with him and tire him out but less than an hour later he's back at her. We just don't know what to do anymore. This morning she's been running from another room to my girlfriend screaming in terror as he chases her.
