Common N-400 Interview Phrases That Trip People Up
I see a lot of people getting stressed about the officer asking for word definitions during the N-400 part of the interview. You don't need fancy dictionary definitions for these, just simple explanations to show you understand what you signed.
Here are a few common ones that trip people up and simple ways to answer:
Oath of allegiance - A promise to be loyal to the United States.
Claimed to be a US citizen - Saying or writing that you are a citizen when you are not.
Owe overdue taxes - Owing money to the government that wasn't paid on time.
Noncombatant services - Helping the military without fighting or carrying a weapon, like working as a nurse or cook.
Hereditary title - A royal title like prince, king, or duke. (Less is more)
If you get stuck on a word during the test, it's totally okay to ask them "could you please rephrase that?" instead of guessing.
Hope this helps anyone studying right now.
If you ever feel down just remember "pressure is a privilege and it only comes to those who have earned it." Your almost there, don't give up!
