How do people respond to the new you?

I ran into an old friend who hadn’t seen me in a while. She is super-fit and athletic, plays on a tennis league in her 70s, etc. She marveled at my weight loss, said how amazing I looked and how good it must feel. She asked me directly if I was on a GLP-1 med, and I answered honestly, so far so good. She then went on to tell me about a daughter-in-law and niece who were obese, and how she WISHED they would just DO something about it! As she spoke her expression matched her words and showed just how revolted she was by them. It made me wonder what she thought about me before and the whole encounter just felt so disappointing. I think some people will never understand the struggle, and obesity, unlike meanness, isn’t something we can hide. It’s there for all to see and judge. The ickiest part for me was the idea that now that Im not obese, I am welcome to the club where other peoples’ bodies are discussed and judged and “we” can all agree how pathetic they are. No, I don’t want to be in your mean-person club!
