Arcane Society: is this normal?

Prefacing to say: not intending this to be a post dragging Arcane, just a genuine query to try and manage my expectations from them moving forward.

TL;DR: My first Arcane box is over a month delayed with no proactive updates. Is this unusual or just something to get used to?

——

I got off the Arcane waitlist in April and paid for my first box (Jasmine Mas) due to ship end of May/start of June.

When the books didn’t arrive and with no email update, I ended up finding a post on their private facebook group about a delay with publishers.

Other comments pointed towards the website updates page which was helpful to find - but that’s not been updated since the start of June either.

Is this a normal kind of delay and lack of comms to get used to from the Arcane sub? I was disappointed to see the way they handled the EU shipping comms recently; but I’ve heard SUCH good things about their book quality and rumours of some great upcoming picks.

So I guess would be good to know if this is an unusual delay - or something to just get used to with them?

Are printed hardcovers the new sprayed edges?

I’ve just picked up a STUNNING edition of Kissed By The Gods today in Waterstones, which is apparently the standard first run publisher edition. So, I was *shooketh* to see a printed hardcover, beautiful sprayed edges x 3, and 2 x endpaper artworks!

As a fairly new Fairyloot Adult and Arcane subscriber, it’s been lovely to get some printed hardcovers this year, which feel really premium.

But interested to hear your thoughts on this shift - will publishers start moving on from foiled hardcovers towards printed ones, and how do you think the book boxes will keep things fresh when the standard editions are starting to look this good?!

I recently purchased a book bundle from Vinted for a very good price, noticing one was this Waterstones first edition of Crescent City with sprayed edges.

When it arrived it turned out to have quite a bit of damage, with a slightly ripped dust jacket and the back cover/endpaper ripped and detached from the block.

My options are to try and repair it (with no experience!) so I can keep as a characterful reading copy, or to resell at lower price in current state to go towards funding a replacement copy in better condition.

Thoughts welcome from the more experienced team here please - I guess I’m nervous about attempting a repair and just making it worse 😬
