How to dress in middle age

Does anyone else struggle with this? I (48f) have never been good at figuring out what looks and feels good on me even when I was younger and thinner. Now, as a middle-aged woman on the larger side, I have no idea how to dress in a way that I feel good about. I've worn a uniform for work since my 20s, but for other times, I just feel unable to see myself clearly and tell if I look good or not. My lack of fucks has kicked in for many areas, but not this one for some reason. I've been shopping for an event and it's bringing up all sorts of anxiety and self-esteem issues for me right now. How do you find your style? How has it changed over the years? Do you still care about it?

Edit: I just want to thank everybody for your kind words and for all the advice pointing me in the right direction. I don't feel so bad for being sartorially adrift and I feel very inspired to have fun with clothing instead of anxiety. Thank you!
