Hi everyone, I’m developing a feature screenplay and would love feedback on the concept.
THE MARILYN EFFECT is a psychological thriller about identity shaped through observation, social media, and interpretation.
It follows a girl named Barbara who grows up learning how to adjust herself based on how she is seen rather than who she is.
Over time, she begins to lose the boundary between self and perception.
Short tone sample:
A girl learns she changes when she is observed.
So she starts studying how she is seen.
At school, she reacts a little too late.
A boy laughs behind her.
She smiles anyway—correcting herself after.
Later, her first video goes online.
“Marilyn vibes,” people comment.
“Why does she feel familiar?”
I’m trying to explore identity as something constructed through observation rather than inner truth.
Does this idea feel strong enough for a feature film?
