Creating powerful Openings pg 1.

How to make a compelling Opening. Wow, well certainly times have changed Hollywood no longer has the monopoly. On my 10th rewrite, an amateur but AI has helped with format, structure. I've got the book written just creating the screenplay has been a challenge, creating real dialogue, intention etc. It's like a Fried Green Tomatoes, Brooklyn, Places in the Heart drama spanning a lifetime. Have my North Star, Dialogue Guide, a story vault of 50 stories. Creating a portal/,transitions table and a rhythm table. Just struggling with a captivating opening. Currently it's a retrospective. .from 1990s.looking back to 1943 forwards. I hope persistence pays off. I've my producer directors Bible, charscters, music sound doc., a pitch deck and I'll create a fully cinematic 90 second trailer for my literary agents use.

Dialogue Feedback

Here’s an excerpt from a script I wrote a few months back. I’ve gotten some interest in this one recently, but I constantly feel insecure about my writing… especially dialogue. Would love some feedback on this excerpt. Are there things I could do to improve the exchange between characters?

Anyone from India interested in screenwriting or filmmaking?

Hi everyone! I’m a new screenwriter from India, currently working on my first sci-fi/fantasy screenplay.

I’m looking to connect with other people interested in filmmaking — especially screenwriters, directors, actors, producers, composers, cinematographers, and editors.

I’d eventually love to build a small team and collaborate on a project. I’m also interested in meeting other aspiring filmmakers, sharing ideas, giving feedback, and learning from each other.

If you’re from India and interested in screenwriting or filmmaking, feel free to DM me! 😊

And if you’re from outside India, you’re welcome too! I’d be happy to connect with filmmakers and screenwriters from anywhere in the world. 🌎

If you have any advice on how to find and connect with people in the film industry, I’d really appreciate it!

First Screenplay

Would love any feedback on these pages. I’m trying to do something similar to Manhattan. I’d like to know what dialogue sounds and feels off. What beats are repetitive if previous beats. How the characters feel. Thank you in advance!

Hello,

I have been writing since middle-school (around a decade), and have never shared a project publicly, having only shared with family/friends and occasionally sending in for notes. I wanted to share my feature horror/comedy script CLANDESTINE that I have been working on for the past couple of years.

I love all genres of cinema and storytelling, but have a fondness for the surreal and unorthodox. This project is something I wrote after having difficulty attempting more conventional and palatable ideas. I feel it exemplifies my predilection for macabre and absurd stories, layered with thorny interpretations and details. Those who enjoy weirder/darker stories like such (or the comps listed above), will hopefully enjoy this. Thank you!

Once again, link is here...

P.S... If you are interested in reading, but are hesitant due to the high-page count, message me for a read4read! I'm interested in meeting new artists and reading new projects, especially those that have yet to be realized.

UK screenwriter heading to LA in October — would love to meet up with fellow writers

Hey all,

I'm Sunny, a screenwriter based in the UK. Been writing features for a few years now, mostly crime/thriller stuff, and had some decent traction lately with a couple of producer conversations in motion.

I'm flying out to LA from October 21st to 27th, mostly to soak up the city and meet people face to face rather than just emailing into the void. If anyone's around that week and fancies a coffee, a drink, or just swapping war stories about the industry, I'd genuinely love to meet up.

Doesn't have to be anything formal — just always find it useful (and honestly more fun) talking to other writers in person rather than over Discord or email. If you're LA-based or happen to be visiting the same week, drop a comment or DM and let's sort something out.

Cheers,

Sunny

Writers, what’s the worst script note you ever received that genuinely broke your heart?

And producers, directors and filmmakers, what’s the most brutal note you’ve ever had to give because something simply wasn’t working?

Writers, What’s the most outlandish thing you’ve ever seen in a script that you knew had to be cut?

And how long did it take before you stopped thinking, “They’re talking rubbish,” and realised they might actually have been right? Lol.

Filmmakers, have you ever softened a note because you knew the honest version would absolutely destroy the writer?

24M, quit my job and took a 2-year break. I want to spend the next 730 days figuring out if filmmaking is really for me.

Hi everyone,

I’m Muneswar, 24M.

I recently left my job and decided to take a break for the next 2 years.

I know that probably sounds crazy to some people, but there’s something I’ve wanted to pursue for a long time — filmmaking, specifically direction and screenplay.

I’ve written several screenplays and stage plays over the years. Writing stories is something I genuinely enjoy, but I’ve realized that writing from the outside isn't enough anymore.

I want to actually be on a film set and understand how films are made.

My immediate goal is to find opportunities to work as an AD (Assistant Director) on films so I can learn the process from the ground up — pre-production, scheduling, blocking, working with actors, camera departments, production, set discipline, and everything else that goes into making a film.

I don't expect to walk onto a set and start directing. 😅

I'm willing to start wherever I can, learn, observe, assist, and do the work.

I'm also open to collaborating with other filmmakers, writers, cinematographers, editors, actors, musicians, or anyone else who is seriously interested in making films.

I'm not looking for people who just want to talk about making a movie someday.

I want to actually make things.

I have a personal deadline in my head:

730 days.

I have these two years to figure out what I'm capable of, learn filmmaking practically, meet people, work on sets, write, make short films, make mistakes, and hopefully discover whether this is truly the life I want.

Maybe at the end of those 730 days I'll know that filmmaking is exactly where I belong.

Maybe I'll discover something completely different.

But I'd rather spend two years finding out than spend the next ten years wondering "What if I had tried?"

If you're working in the film industry, especially as an AD, director, writer, or crew member, I'd genuinely appreciate any advice on how someone like me can get started.

And if you're also trying to make films and looking for someone to collaborate with, feel free to DM me.

I'm based in India and I'm willing to learn, travel, and start from the bottom.

730 days. Let's see where this takes me. 🎬

Does independent movies based on human behaviour, condition, psychological and mature themes made by bunch of students with obsession work in th real world?

I'm a student and I want to be a screenplay writer and director and I'm working on some stuff. So if i make a movie based on human behaviour, conditions, or, psychological and mature themes with a bunch of my friends and some savings. Would it work? Would i get an audience and would I be successful in it?

Pilot Opening Feedback

Can you guys give me an honest opinion on this opening? I changed it from my original draft after receiving coverage on the script and I wanna make sure I’m heading in the right direction. This is the first script I’ve gotten some genuine traction on, so I’d really appreciate the input. Thanks in advance!

My TV Show (Season 1)

Here are all my 13-episode human-made animated scripts that I single-handedly crafted for the past 2 and a half years. Share your thoughts. Give me credit or hate it or don’t judge me, Idc. This is my first time writing scripts and I’m practicing it. I may not know how to perform show don’t tell technique that much or tv show bible or whatnot, but it’s my way of sharing my experiences as soon to be good writer and expressing my feelings into my own words and thoughts.

How do you edit scripts?

Hello! Iam a 20 year old first time script writer. I have written my first ever script for a short animated film for my brother. He doesn't want it completely industry standard but I still want him to read a solid script and not a first draft. How do you usually edit first drafts? What are your suggestions for a first time scriptwriter?
