bookkeeping software for bank reconciliation workflow how do you actually use it day to day?

I run a small service business and I’ve been trying to tighten up my bookkeeping process because things are starting to get messy at month end. I keep hearing that bookkeeping software helps a lot with reconciliation, but I’m not really sure what that looks like in real day to day use compared to just matching transactions manually from the bank statement.

For those who use it regularly, do you still go line by line to verify everything or does most of the work happen automatically and you just review exceptions? Also wondering if you still keep separate tracking outside the system or if everything is fully maintained inside it once set up? trying to understand how it actually fits into a normal workflow. thank you
