Since most of what I painted this week was very light colors, I painted lots of darker colors on the top part of the canvas this morning so it looks like I actually did something this week.

A month ago, I estimated that this would be done around the end of the month. Boy, was I wrong!

Hope everyone is having a great day. Show your progress so we can judge you (🤣).

This is the first week where I can imagine the finish line! Right now, I’m filling in the middle section and it’s all shades of white, off-white, soft white and ecru. It’s really tedious so I’m working in short bursts and taking a lot of breaks.

I got my metal paint stirrers last week and love them. I can get a lot of the paint off the flat edges, so much more than off of the toothpicks. I realized that I still need the toothpicks for getting paint off that went over the lines though, so that’s back on my grocery list.

Time for me to walk Lola the dog for the 3rd time today. I’m not looking forward to it, but we live in an old converted hardware building and if Lola needs to go out, one of us has to take her. Right now at 4:00 pm, it’s 103 F (40 C) here in Texas. What’s it like in your part of the world?

Another week, another WIP. I finally got the middle area almost caught up with the edges. But the edges are so much easier to work on! I was hoping to have this completed by the end of the month, but I’m starting to lose hope. Oh well, it’s not like there’s a deadline or anything.

Question for today: what’s the latest item you’ve gotten to help you paint? Mine is a little flat metal paint stirrer that will arrive on Friday. I’m almost through my box of toothpicks and anyway, they don’t transfer paint that efficiently. I’m hoping that the metal stir-thingy will work better. If not, there goes $7. Could be worse, right?

OMG, I almost forgot to post on WIP Wednesday! It was a busy day and that’s the excuse I’m going to use. 🤣

This week was indicative of the rest of my work on this painting. Tiny cell after tiny cell. I have one more library scene to paint after this one, but I might change it up and do one of the kits my sister’s ex-boyfriend got for her. It’s of our recently deceased parents and there are also a couple of my sis and her kids. She wants nothing to do with anything related to her ex so I’m going to paint them for her. I honestly don’t even know the company he ordered them from so it should be an adventure.

My daughter-in-law and I went to a pottery painting store a few weeks ago and painted some cute little cups. They glazed and fired them and mine came out so cute! I’m using it for my paintbrushes and I’ve included a picture of it here. Turns out that I CAN paint without numbers as long as I paint dots. It’s a start…

Another week, another update. Husband got his stitches out, everything is fine. Yay! Drove 65 miles to get my hair cut by the woman who’s been doing it for a few decades, drove another 20 miles to a great popcorn store to get some flavored popcorn. I brought my sis some pickle and some buffalo ranch flavors while I got Parmesan garlic, spicy ranch, and caramel/jalapeño flavors. Get ready, heartburn!

But enough about me. Let’s talk about what I did this week. 🤭 I stepped back this morning and saw that I’ve been neglecting the middle part of the canvas, so I worked for an hour on it. Once it dries, I’ll do some more. Can’t have an uneven painting, can I?

I’m getting to the areas on canvas where it’s not all brown, which I’m so happy for. Brown is definitely not one of my favorite colors. In fact, I know that I do not have ONE predominantly brown article of clothing in my closet. So adding different colors will be a refreshing change.

I’m looking forward to seeing everyone’s progress this week!

Not much visible progress this week. My husband had minor surgery one day and I was out of town another day I spent a lot of the other time just filling in small areas. And looking at the rest of the canvas, it looks as though I may just be doing this for another month or so.

I see people post a mostly finished painting and say, “This took me 3 days!” Part of me is slightly jealous because they’re finishing it so quickly and I take 2 months to finish mine. The other part of me enjoys the process of getting the details all done. Both parts of me constantly bicker about which is best. I can’t win, can I? 🤣😁😆

So…my question to y’all today is, would you rather get a kit that takes a shorter time or one that has hundreds of tiny cells and takes a much longer time? And what is your reason for your choice?

I went to Hobby Lobby today and found some eye droppers for my Flow Medium. I’m tired of dipping a clean paintbrush into it and dripping it into my paint pot.

I also picked up 4 new brushes, all tiny and pointed. My husband can’t tell them apart, lol.

I’ve also been looking for a container with a lid to put all my supplies in. Found one on sale for $7.99. Yay me!

This one promises (threatens?) to take about two months since I’m trying to be so precise. I don’t mind, but I have another one waiting in the wings and I don’t want that paint to dry out. Here’s hoping that the paint pot seals are tight.

I’m loving the detail in this painting. I am, however, looking forward to a little color other than brown, tan, and beige. If I remember correctly, the last library painting has a lot of green in it. Finally!

My last one took 6 weeks; I think this one may take longer, as I’m being sooo careful about making sure the lines are straight and precise.

I left the eggplant colored pot open overnight and much of it dried out. Luckily, I have 2 pots of that color so I’m combining them and hoping it lasts. I’ve never run out of a color yet.

Also, this kit comes with 50 colors instead of 48. I knew that at the beginning but forgot. And then one of the areas had a 50 in it and I just KNEW that it had to say 20 or 30. I’m going to have to go back, find it, and use the right color on it. Say a prayer for me, lol. 😁

Starting a New PBN

Dinner has been eaten, all dishes are put up, dog has been walked, husband is watching the World Cup game, my canvas has been Gesso’d, and my magnifying light has been charged. Time for a new library scene!

WIP Wednesday

Six weeks in and almost finished! I have most of the cells filled in and then I’m going back to see if I can fix obvious (to me, at least) mistakes and fill in some missed parts. I’m hoping to have it completed by next week.

This one is the first in a series of three library / bookstore canvases that I bought a few months ago. It’s only my third PBN and I’m learning so much.

WIP Wednesday

I practically lived at my little card table slash painting studio this week. My husband has moved his favorite chair near me so we can talk more easily. And my dog keeps my feet warm under the table. Unfortunately, she sheds like a dandelion, so I have to keep picking off hairs from the wet paint.

I do have a question for y’all. Do you wait for all cells to be painted before going back and correcting mistakes? If you do the little repaints before moving on to the next area, how does that work for you? Each time I sit down to paint, my eyes go directly to the light areas that need the outlines painted over. It’s killing me to wait until the end, lol. 🤣

2 weeks in and still enjoying it. I’m estimating that at the pace I’m going, it should take about 6-8 weeks to finish and touch up.

Lots of Detail

I’m loving this PBN. I’ve been working on it for a week and it’s finally starting to look like a library instead of a bunch of lines. I have the smallest paintbrush I can find (Spotter, 20/0) but it still seems too big and I find myself painting outside the lines. Guess I’ll have to tell myself what I tell others, that I need to trust the process and wait to judge it after it’s done.

AI Generated PBNs

I might sound a little naive, but what is the problem with painting PBNs that use AI? I paint them for fun and if I find one that I like, I don’t care how it’s generated. Now, I’m fairly new to painting, so is there something I should be looking out for? Or is it just a personal preference?

So I’m just about finished with my “test pbn.” Basically, I purchased it to see what worked for me - should I go light to dark? middle to edges? what the paint consistency I can expect? I’ve decided to go with 3 48-color library scenes and because they’re so detailed, I’m going to do it by sections so I won’t have to do what I’m doing now, hunting for small unpainted areas and filling them in.

What I would like to know is, what does everyone do with all your finished paintings? I have limited wall space in my loft - the majority of the walls are brick that can’t be drilled into (it’s a historic building) and I don’t want to inundate relatives with paintings. What other options can you suggest?
