What am I doing wrong?

What am I doing wrong?

I use Gesso like has been recommended. One coat, dry a day, light sanding, second coat opposite direction, dry a day, light sanding. I still end up with the white showing through, even after two coats in some places. I try to paint in the same direction and not just slop it on. It's not a particular company or paint, it's every time. I know it's user error, but what am I doing wrong? Any advice?

First PBN!

Yall this took FOREVER. And the color blending was definitely a pain in the neck but I learned a lot and quit trying to follow the lines so perfectly

96 colors, ✅ done

Was a long pain but finally its completed. It all started from digital Paint by number kit. Already framed and putted on the wall.

Adobe Photoshop+ wacom tablet and a few brushes.

Finished! Used stain...

My camera isn't playing nice and is making my finished product look lighter than it is.

The one photo is a screenshot from 1001canvas. The other is mine with stain wiped on and then off. I wanted it to look antique, kind of like it does on the site.

* 48 colors

* 1001canvas website, wonderful customer service

* I always do two coats though

* The paint was a wonderful consistency

* Used the brushes that came with it

* Stretched it onto a frame 40x50 centimeters that I bought unassembled from Amazon.

* (I don't know how the italics happened)I will return to this seller some day but have 5 PBNs in the wings.

I feel like I wasted a lot of paint. Some colors were only used in one area.

I think this took a month of 2 hour sessions. Not sure, as I don't keep track .

Looking for smaller kits.

Anyone have suggestions of smaller kits. Looking for ones that can be done in an afternoon or evening. My friends and I like to get together and do a PBN sip and paint. Unfortunately we all seem to pick out kits that are very intricate so we never leave our hang out with finished items.

First one :)

Took just over a week in 4 sessions. Used shitty brushes and confused myself a bunch but I love it!

Nearly done with my possum

It’s a super cheap kit from Temu and I’ve had to be really patient with the paints bc they’re pretty low quality. Today when I realized I was nearly done, i went back and added second and third coats to some colors. I’ll continue doing this, especially on the really light colors. Honestly though i kind of love it!

Finished this one just in time for the 4th 🗽us

Just finished my Status of Liberty paint by numbers today!
I had a lot of fun with this one ,and it felt pretty fitting to finish it on the 4th of July.☺️
Hope everyone celebrating has a great holiday!

Why is this happening?

This is a custom paint by number by Number Artist. If the paint isn’t layered on extra thick, these lines show from the canvas. How do I fix this? It’s almost as if the canvas is very textured.

WIP – Patriotic porch for the 4th of July

Started this one because it felt right for this week. The flag was surprisingly fun to paint, but the lower part is going to test my patience a bit.

I still have a lot of small sections left, especially around the flowers and walkway, but I like how the porch and blue shutters are coming together so far.

For those who asked: It’s the Patriotic Porch kit from Painting by Numbers Shop:

First paint by numbers (questions at end TIA for any help!)

I’m nearly finished my first PBN, i decided when i got it i was doing it purely for joy and did not care if it came out messy, as it was more to get rid of my fear/block of picking up paint brushes again after years of hiatus. There’s still a few spots I missed, and I just used the brushes supplied ( I don’t know why as I own tons of much better brushes 😂 )

I also wish I had come here and looked at tips before starting, I have white pens in my basket for the next one.
I have enjoyed doing it, though I did found as I neared the end of it I became less interested but I think that’s a me issue. But I’m glad it is now getting last spots and neatening it up/going over layers. This one came with no instructions and I was unsure what process to take, for my next one I will definitely go light to dark as I kinda just winged it with this and went in number order and then just went wild and did no specific order.

Also if anyone has any feedback for how I could make any changes to this to make me like it more please fire away I am not precious about it, the green lines in the top section are really bothering me and I want to go back in and try make them bother me less. I think it feels too blocky and harsh maybe. I also might go rogue and add more orange to the tree, even tho I’ve done it how they say to. I changed some of the colour of the lighter cat last night as it looked green and I didn’t like that.

I have a few questions tho

  1. What do people do with their painting after? I don’t really have any space to display this and it is pretty messy so I’m not sure I would give it away unless somebody wanted it 😅 I have thought maybe going forward I can choose ones that I would like to gift or ones I could see myself actually hanging/smaller (I didn’t realise this one would be so big!)

  2. I’ve seen people saying to use gesso, what are people’s thoughts on this. I am currently more just doing it for joy and relaxation more than anything else but I’m thinking maybe to buy some anyway for the next one (which is not framed, I know about ironing etc but wonder if gesso is even more important for that or not really?)

  3. I have the shakiest hands. Does anyone have any tips for a shaky hand girl for when there is lots of fine lines? I reckon the supplied brushes did not help with this at all, and only realised last night I maybe should have been using the larger flat brush for them all along. I think for the next one I will be using my other brushes as well, but I still think my hand be shaky.

(Also context I am chronically ill and don’t sit at a proper set up I just put an old sheet over my couch and do it in my lap, or occasionally go outside if it’s sunny and sit in my garden with it)

WIP - Gift for nephew 💙

I’m moving apartments in less than 2 weeks. Thankfully just around town, but still super busy and stressed. I bought a few small canvas’ to work on in-between packing. Found this cute dragon I’m planning on gifting to my 6 year old nephew. Hope he likes it! 🐉💙✌🏻

Can anyone reccomend a company that doesn't use AI art that has low shipping costs to the UK?

I really want to give Paint by Numbers a go but all of the sites I've found seem to be mostly AI art I think? Maybe I just can't differentiate anymore 😅

Kind of a long shot but....

Does ANYONE have a box lying around of this specific Art Loft's PBN or is working on it themselves? I lost my paints and I need a good picture of the colors because I want to try to mix them myself with some acrylic paint I have.

Any help is much appreciated!

Finished minus final tweaks

I want to fix the lines where it got dents in the tube during shipping and then do final touch up on spots. Then finding a nice frame!

Re: paint by number (with metallic transfer accent) kit

Hi, I have this kit that comes with four little canvases. I have read through the directions on the back of the box for applying the metallic transfers. They are showing that they should be applied after all paint is dry. However, since part of the process of applying them includes pressing down on them with a damp paper towel, I see a risk in smudging the paint, even though it’s dried. So I was thinking about applying the transfers first and then painting around them as I go through the paint by number kit. Feel like this might be the safer route and I don’t see any drawback to it. I did another kit that was similar, but the foil was pre-embedded/applied in the canvas, and I just worked around the foil, which is what the intention of the kit was… and it came out really nice.
