Pet rent [Harrisonburg,VA]

I am really disturbed that pet rent is abused by landlords as i am disturbed by people who abuse ESA certificate. But I am realizing that people have to do what they have to do so they dont lose their pets in this crappie economy and real estate market

I will only live in home that welcomes pets, pay a deposit and if my pet does damage i will be accountable as will be for any damage I cause!

But if my pet doesn't do anything then why do they get 100 a month on top of my 2k rent and my 1k nonrefundable pet deposit as well as 2k security deposit?

I asked in the wrong subreddit <kinda new to the rules i guess> and my point was missed. I hope I can get my questions answered here. I dont have whatever karma is so I'm limited to where to ask anyone for help or thoughts.

I do qualify for ESA because of my ptsd but that is not a route I wanted to go because I should not have too... I am all for paying deposit but I feel like im being taken advantage of in the pet rent....

Is there any insurance company that has a rental insurance not only like liability issues but damage too? I feel like that would be more fair and based on statistics rather than some random amount the landlord makes up? Or-- can I say let's put this pet rent in a trust account and if my pet does nothing to exceed the 1k then give it back to me?

Thank you

Just in case tone is misinterpreted === = I appreciate honest decent landlords of the world and thank you for allowing people to keep their pet, but the ones who try to manipulate by taking money without cause with fee, fee, fee, pet rent, blah blah shame on you!

Why is pet rent and a deposit required

Hi. I am moving to the area in July. I am selling my house and renting there. I am looking now. I have 2 chi less than 15 pounds combined that are potty trained and sleep all day .. except when I’m home …they are so Velcro dogs. I have anxiety and depression and would seriously be lost without them. But getting an ESA certification seems extreme so fine I’ll pay the 500 dollar deposit but 50 a month as well that is non refundable is also extreme and is a straight up money grab imo.

it is no wonder that so many pets go to shelters.. the pet rent and the high cost of rental.. who can afford it—-

so hopefully someone here can help me find a reasonable house to rent.. I have no issues with a deposit that is smart business but paying pet rent as well! Should be illegal!
thank you for letting me vent— and hopefully some help finding a good rental agency or what not :)
