Cardinal Points vs 7920v

Hi, for people buying the 7920v, what been your rationale to pick over Cardinal Points outside of waiting time and secondary market costs (if that's the way you are going?)

The 15% retail price difference seems small relatively for the buy at retail decision.

Thanks

4520v Lume is weak?

Hello!! Recently bought a blue 4520v. Have found its lume in normal life conditions to be very weak. How is everyone’s experience? Trying to figure out if that’s just how it is or it’s my piece specifically.

For example, normal day, working indoors from 9-6 with a couple of breaks / walks for lunch, coffee etc in the sun. Went to a see a play in the evening, 20min walk outside and couldn’t see anything on the watch 45 mins after the lights turned off ( I did not look at the watch earlier)

I know it’s there as I can of course see it if immediate look at it after light exposure but my view was it would be “charged” for a few hours at least.

Thank you for your help!

Should you go grey or retail?

TLDR - are two pateks ~$100k total spend enough to get a nautilus or pm aquanaut

I’d like to buy 2 non sports Patek watches over the next few years. I’ll go retail if this means I can get a nautilus or gold aquanaut otherwise grey. What should I do?

These will be something like the 5212A, 5226g or an annual calendar.

While i like a couple of their sports watches (not the steel aquanaut), they aren’t watches I care about chasing but would certainly put a nautilus or a gold aquanaut in the category of watch I like but not going to buy them grey (too expensive)

Are two purchases enough to get these or am i better off to just go grey. I wont pay the grey premium for the sports watches so wont buy them then.

TL:DR; Bought Overseas. Did not get box. Sad. Can you post nice box photos so I know what I am missing.

I know a lot of collectors think boxes are hassle but as a first VC I really wanted one. The one they sell I find a bit soulless (and expensive!)

So just want to see what boxes people have really liked. And if you think there is a way to get any of these from VC or should I buy second hand.

Much appreciated.

What’s the reason for the 5968A steel aquanaut chrono relatively more expensive than AP and VC?

It retails > $65k, well above where the RO Chronograph or the Overseas Chronograph retail.

Have generally found similar watches + complications to be similarly priced between the three (Overseas, RO and Aquanaut are all within 10% of each other as an example. Similar trend if you see on the $130k end of perpetual calendars from vc and pp)

Curious mostly if this is a movement thing (Patek is better?) or something similar else.

Isn’t 5212A the most interesting watch Patek makes under $45k?

Genuinely interesting and nothing like it in the lineup or in competition.

Although I think as a steel watch it’s $10k too much.

(A prev version of the post had a typo on the reference)

~50-50 on the steel vs rubber strap for 4520v blue dial.

Looking at the core contributors numbers that is.

Clearly a split opinion (in a good way) 🤣

If you found the 5520v overseas chronograph too big at 42.5m did you consider the Royal Oak chronograph ?

Basically what it says on the title. I think the 42.5mm 5520v is a bit too big. As an alternative did anyone consider the RO? Same price range. RO is somewhat harder to get but now seems to be a time thing vs purchase history.

Thanks

How Many Patek’s do you own. Found this barbell result to be very interesting.

Small sample but if this community is representative of its buyer base then it explains Patek’s distribution strategy almost completely.

Everest vs Cardinal Points. Do we think VC will reintroduce Everest as a non limited piece?

I assume VC based this on the data they have of dual time demand vs the chrono…

What’s your view on the CDV steel?

Can’t quite place it. Love how it looks. Manual winding is a bit of a downside. Also think a steel chrono watch at this price point is too much even for a holy trinity piece ?

Why doesn’t VC give a proper box with overseas ?

I like the wallet and travel pouch for convenience but why can’t they give a proper nice box with a $30-40k watch?

The pouches aren’t even real leather 🤦🏻‍♂️

Is Cubitus just a more accessible Nautilus?

Basically what the title says. Anyone own both? What do you like / not like about it ?

Cardinal Points rumoured demand and secondary market prices don’t match?

Hello! Have read (including here) and spoken to the boutique when registering that there is a significant supply demand mismatch on these so long waitlists and spend histories being required to get hold of one.

But they are ‘only’ 20-25% over retain on chrono24 ? Aquanaut is 2-3x, nautilus is 1.6-2x+, Rolex SS Daytona is 1.8x, even GMTs are 1.6x

Yes most VCs except the steel 222 trade at / under retail so it’s a big deal for VC but in absolute sense this doesn’t seem to be a watch whose secondary market value is reflecting its demand?

What gives ?

TBH I am hoping that secondary market prices are the clearer signal and so all of us who want one will get it without too much hassle.

Thanks.

4520v owners how robust a sports watch is this?

I wear mine almost daily but is this a watch you are happy to swim in / expose to the beach / take on a long casual hike or bike ride?

As an illustration its stated water resistance is more than a lot of Rolex watches which I would be happy to do all if the above with.

Thank you!

Which perpetual calendar ? Vacheron Traditionelle, Patrimony or Patek?

Is there anyone who has owned more than one? Or decided between them? Thanks !

Vacheron 222 in steel- what is its closest alternate in Patek or AP?

My question is both in terms of wearability and catalogue / horology / design.

Is it like a steel nautilus ?

Please stop posting photos of/ bragging about your overseas (esp 4520v)

It’s the best sports watch around, better than Patek / APs and it’s not worn by every annoying person around you and the buying process is like a buying process should be.

You will all ruin this by making this a hype watch.

Please stop. Control your urge. Take one for the team.

Thank you.

Anybody here who has a 222 and 4520/4500 in blue?

Hello! I own a 4520v in blue and have been thinking about my next watch.

I like so many of the VC watches that it makes the decision hard!- 222, American 1921, Cardinal points (I am on the waitlist) and the CdV. The historiques I can get as a walk in, the others with a ~1 year wait.

The other choice is to expand and get a first Patek 🤷🏻‍♂️

Anyway 222 as the standalone is my favourite of all these. But unsure if it’s just too similar to the 4520v to get a good use out of both watches. Anyone who has both, any regrets?
