This isn’t a rant

Idk where I could post it cuz I feel like posting it in the Rivals Reddit page it will get removed but me and my friends would like to make some rivals friends. I personally do have close friends already that I play with but want to expand on having many more so there can always be a stack or even just more than 3 people on the team. I do have a discord server for comms and stuff as well. Definitely looking to meet so cool people and yes at least have some decency to be good on a team. Feel free to dm me

Hard to swallow pill

not everybody but a majority of players that Refuse to learn the game, mechanics, matchups etc. If this game had you locked into the character you chose pre match. I feel very very sorry for a lot of people. You would have no choice but to learn, and if you buns or not doing your job …. You think it’s toxic now…yeaaa.

Literally saved by being able to swap, some just get carried their way through.

Oh and before someone says that’s the dumbest idea. It’s been done already in Paladins the idea worked flawlessly. If someone’s pick was great well that’s when the discussion of (said character) would’ve been a better pick.

It’s concerning

I swear there are 100% players in this community who either

A: play with their tv/monitor off
B: just discovered they had thumbs and how to hold a controller
C: are playing with a Kinect mic for audio, can’t hear someone a foot behind them.
D: forget what common sense is.
E: have zero sense, absolutely zero sense of game awareness or mechanics.

Even the bots do better, and they are BOTS,not human beings and that says a lot

Marvel Rivals has a fundamental gameplay problem

Coming from a DPS background in hero shooters like Overwatch and Paladins, I can flex roles when needed, but I main DPS.
And I’m going to be completely blunt about what I keep seeing in Marvel Rivals:
A large portion of players — especially DPS players — do not actually understand how the game works at a fundamental level.
Not mechanics. Not aim.
Fundamentals.
Things like:
counter systems
fight priority
matchups
win conditions
and when your pick is actively losing value
And then the same players wonder why they are stuck.

If you queue, you should be playing to make impact
I play every match like it matters. Like I’m playing for money, even though I’m not.
Why?
Because there is absolutely no point in queuing into a team-based game if you are not actively trying to contribute or create impact.
You are not alone in the lobby.
There are 4 other people depending on you every fight.
If you are:
not contributing
not adapting
or not trying to win
Then you are effectively dragging the team into a 4v5 every engagement.

Counter systems are being completely ignored
The game has a simple structure:
Dive beats poke
Poke beats slower/static comps
Anti-dive shuts down dive
Brawl punishes bad positioning but loses to range control
Yet people completely ignore it.
Example:
Enemy runs Punisher or Namor, controlling space and punishing air/mobile DPS.
And yet we still get:
Iron Man
Spider-Man
repeatedly diving in, getting shot out of the air instantly, dying, and refusing to adjust.
That is not “learning.”
That is repeating the same losing interaction and calling it gameplay.

Another example:
We run a dive comp:
Magik
Iron Fist
Black Panther
Enemy swaps to anti-dive / anti-flank setup.
And instead of adapting, players just keep forcing the same dives into hard counters over and over again.
They lose every fight, then act confused why nothing is working.
That is not skill.
That is refusing to understand matchups.

Scoreboard reality vs ego denial
Then you look at the scoreboard and see:
2–11
constant deaths
zero fight impact
And when told to swap or adjust:
they get defensive
refuse completely
swap and throw out of ego
or fall back on “it’s just QP”
At that point you are not “practicing.”
You are actively repeating mistakes while dragging 4 other players down with you.

“Lord” characters are massively misunderstood
This is where a lot of coping happens.
Having a “Lord” title or high proficiency does NOT automatically mean skill.
Most of the time it just means:
time played
one-tricking
or grinding games regardless of actual impact
That is NOT the same as understanding the game.
But here’s what people ignore:
Real Lord players do exist.
The ones who:
can flex multiple heroes
understand counters and matchups
play around win conditions
and consistently show up on scoreboard with real impact
Those are the players who actually deserve to flex it, because they can back it up in actual gameplay.
The problem is people confuse those players with stat grinders who just spam one hero regardless of whether it works.

Core issue: players ignore win conditions
Holding your weight does NOT mean:
getting kills
doing damage
or existing in fights
It means understanding:
fight priority (what actually matters first)
matchups and counters
timing and positioning
when your hero is losing value
and when you should swap
Mechanics are meaningless if you are playing the wrong fight.
Good aim doesn’t matter if you’re shooting the wrong target.
Kills don’t matter if they don’t win fights.
Damage doesn’t matter if it has no impact on the outcome.

“It’s just QP” is not an excuse
Quick Play is NOT:
training grounds where fundamentals don’t matter
a solo deathmatch mode
or a place where win conditions disappear
There are real players in every match who are:
trying to win
trying to improve
and playing competitively regardless of mode
QP removes rank pressure. It does NOT remove responsibility.
You are still affecting 4 other people’s experience every single match.

DPS is the biggest offender (but not the only issue)
This applies to all roles:
Tanks who don’t create space lose fights before they start
Supports who don’t enable or sustain lose tempo immediately
DPS who ignore counters, matchups, and priority lose entire fights instantly
But DPS is the most noticeable because:
they directly decide fight outcomes
they rely heavily on timing and target priority
and their mistakes collapse fights immediately

Final point
At the end of the day, if you queue into a team game, you should be trying to make impact every match.
Not perfection.
Not sweating every moment.
Just basic intent to actually contribute.
Right now, too many games in Marvel Rivals are decided by which team actually understands fundamentals…
And which team is treating a competitive team shooter like a personal deathmatch while ignoring counter systems, matchups, fight priority, and win conditions completely
