Good day! I’m an international PhD student at Dal in Canada and I'm trying to figure out the actual process for doing an external internship (either in Canada or internationally) during my program.

I’ve looked everywhere, but can't seem to find any centralized info or a clear handbook for PhD internships for international students. Since the internship is not an integral part of the PhD, I am a bit confused about how it would work. Suggestions from any knowledgeable person and specifically someone who has gone through the process -- would be great.

Specifically trying to figure out:

1. Steps/Process: What is the actual step-by-step process?
2. Enrollment Status: What would be the status of studentship during the period of the PhD internship?
3. Permits from IRCC: What specific permits, or adjustments are required for both domestic and international placements?

If anyone has gone through this and knows the specific hoops I need to jump through, I would really appreciate your insight.
