i have been told that when i want to equip a card to a creature, i have to declare the equipment action by targeting the creature. since shroud and hex creatures say "This creature can't be the target of spells or abilities." can i equip a card to them?

also, if a creature gains shroud after i already equipped a card to them, what happens to the equipment?
