Open discussion: Boycotting spotify

Open discussion: Boycotting spotify

I am going to a picnic and was reflecting on whether or not mention that ive been trying to stay off spotify to the ppl suggesting making a playlist. But also not knowing how to go about that OR if it is even fair to bring up?

I personally go long periods of time without listening to much music so inherently not being on spotify already has its ease for me

Through research there isnt a clear consensus of an alternative that is a direct equal (Free access, rich catalogue, low cost subscribtion (as low as 6,39$/mo for students))

The main ones ive seen are:

qobuz (1month free then 17$/mo).

Soundcloud (free access and as low as 6,99$/mo for students) but it is getting mixed reviews due to partnering with an israel based music marketing platform.

apple music (as low as 5,99$/mo for students) but again it is apple so ive seen mixed reviews about that too

Deezer and tidal which i also seen some mixed reviews due to ties with israel compagnies as well.

Youtube music which ive seen argued that isnt a great alternative as it is funding google

ALL that to say that its hard to know if it is a conversation to have when i dont even have a clear alternative to propose so it feels like im just pointing fingers without providing anything👩🏾‍💻

I watched the video below (which isnt perfect but just to help me in my reflections and how to approach this) and it made me question:

•is what i should nudge for is a lesser usage of spotify?

•Is it fair for me to bring up ?

•How can we get to a consensus of alternative(s) to create tangible pressure on spotify ?

Thank you reading 👩🏾‍💻!
