IVDD/Aspiration Pneumonia

IVDD/Aspiration Pneumonia

Our 3 year old frenchie had ivdd surgery in March after paralysis and was making great progress. He experienced a compressed disc a few weeks ago and somehow aspirated during a dose of meds and now has aspiration pneumonia (they think given his symptoms but after two rounds of X-rays his lungs were clear). He has been to the ER twice this week, is down to 27 pounds (regular 34), won’t eat and giving him water through a syringe. he’s on antibiotics but still running a slight fever (103.4) as of this morning. I don’t know what else to do, I’m feeding him baby food to try to get calories but he does not want to eat. I am starting to lose hope and don’t know else to do. His breathing is stable and he seems comfortable but it’s hard not seeing improvements day after day and I don’t know how long he can sustain this. I know he is losing energy day after day.

IVDD Relapse/Frenchie Depressed

Edit: 7/1/26: he woke up with a runny nose and wet sounding cough, but they ruled out Tuesday at the emergency vet he didn’t have pneumonia I have an appointment tomorrow with his regular vet but anyone had doggy cold or kennel cough or anything like that before? this is his first signs of illness outside of his symptoms from back issues.

Our 3 yr old frenchie is about 3 mos post IVDD surgery and was making a great recovery. about a week and a half ago he let out a yelp in pain when rolling over after a nap and has been on the downhill since. he is walking and still has function over bladder control and bowel movement but has lost all personality and energy. he barely moves once k get him up for the day, refuses to eat and drink even his favorite treats and is seemingly depressed. we took him to the emergency vet twice now and they think he has another compressed disc, but aren’t sure what else and cannot find anything with X-rays. he has a runny nose and eyes and seems to have a slight fever but no energy and just seems so sad and depressed. has anyone else experienced this and is there anything you did that helped? we aren’t sure what else to do but he’s starting to lose weight and seems very sad. it’s hard seeing him like this

Frenchie IVDD Recovery

Our boy is 3 1/2 and was diagnosed with IVDD in March after having to get surgery due to compressed and ruptured discs and paralysis of his back legs. He has been in recovery now since then and has regained walking ability, but over the past week he has really regressed and seems to be in pain. We took him back to the surgeon who said he likely has another compressed disc and to start strict crate rest and meds for 6 weeks. It has been a week and thing seem to almost be getting worse. They let us know the only other thing they could do if things get worse are more scans and more surgery, but I would hate to put him through that again. He refuses to eat kibble or his favorite treats and I cannot get him to take his meds with anything which is unlike him as he is very food motivated. He is always laying down and wanting to sleep and acts like he’s is almost dying or shutting down. I spent two days at my parents and left him with my fiance for the first time alone since his surgery and since then he seems to be worse.

I made him rice and some ground beef last night for dinner and he ate that up, and I put in an order for a salmon rice canned food today that will be here Friday in hopes he will eat some. I’m getting really nervous he’s giving up and is in pain and I want nothing more than to help him. Does anyone have recommendations on what else I can do? Or if this has happened to anyone else? He is just not acting himself and even shakes in pain at times when he is laying on the floor and it breaks my heart. Any support is greatly appreciated.
