I noticed that the applications are open on the 311 Cooling Portland page for those below the 60 percent median income threshold again. Last year I helped my great aunt sign up and they came and installed for her and everything. A great resource for those who are need of cooling still this autumn. They prioritize elders who are disabled or live alone but anyone under that income threshold and living in portland seem to be eligible. Such a great resource I just wanted to share !

TLDR: a friend was weirded out me and my husband go 50/50, curious how many couples do today

I’m just curious. My husband and I (both 30) came from similar backgrounds, no family money/worked since we were 15. We moved to a big city a few years ago with basically nothing, I took a receptionist role and he took a warehouse job that both paid basically nothing. Since then we have moved up in different careers we like, both make about the same pay (low 70s). We have always split everything big like rent, groceries, bills, but we aren’t rigid in keeping score. He still is romantic and takes me on dates and gets me flowers, etc. and pays for those things. We just purchased our first home and contributed equally and split the mortgage. I’m pretty comfortable with this, it feels like a partnership.

I went to dinner with a few girlfriends i haven’t seen in awhile and when we were discussing my house purchase, one friend was really suprised we share the mortgage. She basically said she couldn’t imagine her man having her pay (I think he makes a higher salary for sure). I changed the subject before getting into that me and my husband split most things in life. I was weirded out since this way of thinking I assumed was dated, but now I’m curious. How many people in marriages are splitting most everything?

Edit detail to add, we do not have kids, but like hearing about people who dos experience too

We have only been married a year, so we are still figuring things out, please be kind! Making the same money, 50/50 is proportional as well, there is no plan to not have things stay proportional in the future
