Question on Uranium Mining

Last night I tried to do some Uranium mining in a cave but got overwhelmed by the creatures that spawned in on top of me.
It was not a good fight. I only got a stack of 10 uranium out of the fight.

My questions are as follows:

1 - If I use Creature Deterrents to prevent spawns, would that work?

2 - Is it better to mine in a cave or one of the more open deposits?

3 - What’s the best method you’ve been able to figure out for protecting the extractor?

4 - Assuming you can hold off the Animals that spawn in, is it better to store the Uranium Ore right away or Process it on site into more useful materials?

5 - Can you force animals to spawn in a certain direction, aiming to build a fortress around the Ore node?

Advice and answers would be very welcome!

Things I’ve learned in Icarus

Here’s a few things that I’ve discovered so far about Icarus that not everyone might know. It’s mostly a bunch of small things that I think should be shared.

If I have anything wrong, please let me correct me in the comments.

1 - Organic Extractors seem to produce the same amount of Bio-fuel regardless of what you use as fuel.
Note: Have not yet tried this with Veggie Oil.

2 - You can hold a Portable Bio-Fuel Tank in hand and extract the Fuel in the Organic Extractor’s buffer tank to fill the Barrel.
A full buffer tank instantly fills the Barrel.

3 - Lithium tools are good if you want the Ionic dust to turn into more Iron, gold or Copper. Perfect for mining Stone for that exact reason.

4 - Miasmic Tools, while extremely hard to get on Olympus or Styx, are amazing for manual Mining since the Noxious Crust can be cleaned for a 1:5 ore ration, giving you 5 Ore for every one Noxious Ore. this also works on Exotics.
Note: Thank you to the commenters on one of my previous posts for telling me about this amazing feature!

5 - Bio-Fuel to Oil is a great source of Oil if you don’t build your base near an oil field, but to get a decent steady supply to fill your Oil tanks in a reasonable amount of time, it’s best to use 3 or more Organic Extractors per Natural Oil Refiner for quick fill up.

6 - Frozen Ore, no matter the source, can be turned into any random ore, making it possible to find Scoria, Clay and Obsidian without having mined those materials.

7 - Thanks to a clever Prospector in the comments of my last post, a more efficient Wood to Tree Sap recipe is known. Turning Wood directly to Tree Sap is a 1:2 ratio. However, if you turn Wood into Sticks and then turn those into Tree Sap, The ratio turns out to become a 1:2.5 instead! So if you do wood normally, One stack of wood turns into 200 Sap. With this new recipe, it turns into 250 Sap.

8 - Polar Bears are mean and tough.
Don’t pick on them unless you’re willing to die.

9 - Look twice before jumping in a hole.
It might take you a while to climb out of. This rule also applies to cracks in the Arctic biome. Especially in the Arctic biome.

10 - Picking up stuff from Mission areas is good, just make sure you don’t pick up turrets.
Especially those with different names than what you can craft. They might see you as still an enemy.

11 - If you place any building piece fully underground, it’s gone for good AFAIK. I don’t know any method to get it back.

12 - Building Support work on Physics.
A Floating foundation does not provide as much as one connected to the ground would. So if you’re having support issues, make sure your Support is connected to the ground.

13 - Not all support is Equal. This may sound simple, but a packed dirt foundation will not provide nearly as much Support for your building as a Limestone or Concrete building pieces would.

14 - The YOINK law applies to all mission based items.
If you want it and you can grab it, nothing stops you from taking it. This means that you’ll sometimes take something only for it to respawn if a later mission brings you back to the same base. Free stuff is always the best!

15 - Oil is quick and powerful, but beware their downside.
Oil Tools like the Jackhammer and the Chainsaw are really fast at harvesting materials. But the Jackhammer durability will deplete and break before you run out of oil in your Oil Tank, (not the Oil barrel, to specify.) And the chainsaw will fill your inventory up with wood, but little fiber or sticks.

If you have more advice you want others to know, share it in the comments below!

Icarus Idea: Prestige Character

I know this won’t be a thing the Decs do, so this is mostly just a “That’d be epic” kind of idea post.

The idea a friend and I came up with is simple: A Prestige system for your Icarus Character.

You lose your level, ALL of your Blueprints, Your missions are reset and you’re basically back to square one. Even your Workshop is reset.

But in return, you get Prestige points you can spend to unlock unique and powerful items! And the more you lose from Prestige, the more points you get.

Here’s some simple examples that my friend and I came up with:

- New Exo-Suit with default extra 6 pockets and 2 Mod slots

- Unique armour that you customize like the Bio-Lab weapons! Literally building your own new set of armour.

- New BPs that take a bit of exotic to craft but can act as a huge game changer. Things like Long Range Exotic Cables that can reach 10x to 20x the distance of Normal cables.

- Unlocking Infusion Crafting, basically allowing you to craft/upgrade machines by crafting them with a massive amount of Exotics. The higher the tier, the bigger the bonus.
Bonuses like: Faster crafting on Crafting machines, Quicker mining on Deep Drills, or maybe Cost Reduction on certain machine. Or maybe certain tools become more durable.

Cool things like that! Things that make you actively seek out Exotics and such for more immediate rewards.

Then players would be drawn to the exotic deposits way more often, resulting in more chance to try new things and explore more.

Project Molehole. Status: Completed

For the past month, I've been grinding out materials and designs for a Project of mine.

Project Molehole.

The project took massive amounts of Iron, Copper, and more. Thanks a lot to the people in one of my last posts about Lithium and Rubies, i was to drastically speed up the creation of the Solar Panels and Batteries using the Miasmic Pickaxe!

The goal of the project was to not only light up the path from the Frostland to the Desert, but also allow a rest stop fully equip to allow you to quickly restock basic supplies and get some good rest in.

With this simple build, I can now stop draining my lantern and getting lost in the cave! And the ability to recover from Miasmic poisoning and feed my mounts, I can go further without needing as much supplies!

With this testbed done, Project IcyHot will be next!
The Artic will be exploited to the max!

Tier 5 Materials: Best way to get? Especially Rubies!

So i've recently been going deep into the Tier 5 materials and all the useful things that they can do.

Mostly for the Lithium and the Rubies. They make it a lot cheaper to use Adv. batteries and Solar Panels.

My big question is: How do i easily farm these materials? I know Lithium is mostly found in the Desert, so i can Thump it for a large supply. Or just hunt Drones for a good supply

But i've struggled to find any good supply of Rubies.

And to my knowledge, neither of these can be Deep Drilled.

Anyone know a good way to get a large supply of Rubies?
Or a better, less time consuming way to farm the Drones for Lithium? (I only can find 1 or 2 drones at a time)

Utterly Confused: No Shelter?

I just finished expanding my base today and for some weird reason, the game won't consider large portions of the new area as "Sheltered" even though it's fully enclosed! I've also lost a few machines that were considered as "sheltered" until a storm came through and started to damage them.

Weirdly enough, the storages don't seem to be affected. Is this a new bug or did i mess up my building somehow?

I'm on the Elysium map, building on double layer concrete foundations over the H11 lake.

Edit: Thanks to the lovely advice in the comments, i have solved the issue with some interior walls! Never knew the game had a interior space limit before today! Thanks for the advice everyone!

I've recently hit level 400. Yes, i know, that's a lot of grinding.

But it's mostly been me using the same character for everything. Olympus, Styx, Prometheus, and now Elysium.

I've got nearly everything unlocked, except for the BPs that require you to do a second run on a map to get the BPs you were mission blocked from getting.

One idea that's been in my mind for a while now was turning my excess Blueprint Points (BPs) into more Talent Points (TPs) using the space station & some Exotics. It'd be so nice to turn the large horde of un-usable BPs into some sort of useful TPs for the sole reason of allowing me to have a use for them after a point.

It doesn't even need to be a good conversion ratio! Even if it was a 10 or 20 BPs to 1 TP at the cost of say 75 Exotics, i'd gladly take that! Might even give me a reason to try mass farming the Exotics again!
