What are the worst things the Imperial Guard have ever done?

I feel like despite being the militant arm of the bloodiest regime imaginable, Guardsmen are often portrayed in the narrative and the collective conscience as victims of the Imperium, sent to fight and die in untold billions in hopeless battles.

So, what are the worst atrocities that were ordered and carried out by boots-on-the-ground guardsmen?

To clarify, I'm not really talking about 'They were sent to quell rebellion on this peacefully protesting planet', because Guardsmen don't generally get a choice in what and where they're deployed to fight. More interested in the smaller, unnecessary moments in which they demonstrate that they are, after all, sons of the Imperium.

[Online][5.5e 2024/PF2e][PST, evenings][LGBTQ+] Forever DM looking to play in a group!

Hi! I'm Moe, a longtime DnDhead that's run a few campaigns for friends, but hasn't really gotten to chance to play very much.

I'm most available on sundays and mondays, but am also usually available by 6 otherwise, depending on how busy work is.

I'm 26, he/him, militantly anti-AI and pro-LGBTQ+. I like a lot of media, with some touchstones being Dark Souls/Elden Ring, Destiny 2, and Warhammer 40k. When it comes to tabletop games I'm usually a fan of more lighthearted, heroic stories though.

Also, while all my experience with dnd, I'm very interested in learning pathfinder. As a crunchy numbers enjoyers that loves buildcrafting, I've been told many times that I would love it. I'm also interested in Lancer, if anyone's looking.

But, yeah! If I sound like a good fit for your group, shoot me a dm! I'll probably get back to you pretty quick.

So, with the benefit of hindsight and meta knowledge, is there anything Mortarion could have done?

Specifically, I'm talking about once the Destroyer Plague has spread throughout his ship.

Obviously in the moment he found no solution other than giving in and turning over the souls of himself and his men to Nurgle, but was there any one-in-a-trillion timeline where he made it out alive?

Like what if, for example, he'd renounced his rebellion and begged Big E for help (not that he ever would, but that's besides the point)? Was Big E even capable of long-range miracles before being interred on the throne?

Just curious if anyone has a plan b they'd try if they were in Morty's position.

Does anyone have a source on Ryan Gosling having ADHD?

My friend and I have been really getting into his movies after PHB, and we've heard that he was diagnosed as a child. We can find a ton of websites referencing this, but I haven't tracked down a single link to an interview or article where he actually mentions this. Anyone here have anything?

Examples of Astropathic messages being misinterpreted?

I've been reading up on Astropaths and how they work, but the idea of their messages being heavily obscure and unreliable doesn't seem like something I've ever seen outside of its own context.

Are there any exerpts actually portraying a message being misconstrued and resulting in significant problems? Preferably something more than a codex blurb or what have you, but I'm interested in anything that exists.

How much do the mortals of 40k know about the Great Game?

I was thinking about this earlier and it dawned on me that most probably don't, right? I assume the more word bearer-y Chaos Marines would have a pretty decent idea of it, but what about the average base rank marine that's not so knowledgeable about daemonic lore?

Similarly, I would imagine those with Ordo Malleus would be aware, but I'm not sure if there's much reason anyone else would be. As for Xenos, I don't think it'd be a stretch to say the Eldar are pretty familiar but none of the others would be.

Am I wrong? Has anyone ever intentionally played differently aligned Chaos forces against each other with the Great Game in mind, or do they just chalk the infighting up to general Chaos chaos-ness? (Which it more likely is anyway, I suppose. Not sure the Great Game really even factors into realspace happenings that much.)

Realistically, how many bolter rounds could a space marine carry at once?

Whenever I see a bolter I can't help but be amused by the size of the rounds in the magazine. Even with a handful of reloads in their various pouches, I can't imagine them getting off more than like 20-30 shots without having to run and find the nearest ammo-serf.

After the heresy finally ended, it must have been pretty harrowing for the Imperium to realize that it wasn't actually over and that marines would continue to fall to corruption even without the driving charisma of Horus or the other primarchs. I'm curious if the topic has ever been touched on in the literature.

As an aside, another question. Did any loyalist Heresy veterans ever fall later? It feels like the kind of irony 40k would have.
