Camp Half-Blood: The Kleos Cycle [Looking For 4-5 Players] [ASYNCH] [Discord] [Demigods System] [21+]

Hello everyone!

I posted here a handful of days ago and got a lot of advice (thanks again to everyone who replied and helped me cultivate what I think is going to be a very fun game!). Today, I am here to post the official ad for the game! (Insert government-mandated confetti and celebratory emojis here.)

Just in case you have not seen my previous post, hi there!!! I'm Laurel, and I am brand new to PBP. I saw a creator on Instagram was running a D&D 5e Percy Jackson-inspired adventure and thought, “God, that sounds like a lot of fun!” So I built up a plot over the past couple of weeks and then realized that, “Hey, maybe this would work super well as an RP,” and one Google search after another led me to the discovery of PBP! Then this amazing forum recommended Demigods, which is run with PbtA, and WHABAM! We're here!

I have about 4-ish years of DM experience in D&D 2014. This is a very different game, which I am aware of, and that experience has been with live, in-person games, so is that really relevant experience? Well... no. But I do have it!! Slightly more relevant is that I have about 10 years of RP experience on Discord, so I'm familiar with the platform.

But yes, if you read that and are still interested in joining my game and learning alongside me, thank you! Here's some more information on the game!

System: Demigods (I will be providing all necessary resources to the players)

Platform: Discord

This will be an asynchronous game [I am in the EST timezone, and my most active hours are usually in the evening and nighttime.]

Posting Expectations: One post every 48 hours at minimum. Third person, past tense.

I am looking for 4 players (maybe 5 if there is a group of friends that joins, though I do not know how common that is in PBP).

Brief Synopsis: I’m hoping to keep things a little mysterious at first. I want to capture the feeling of the early Percy Jackson books, where the world feels strange and unfamiliar, and both the characters and players slowly learn about Camp Half-Blood together.

The campaign is set roughly twenty years after the original series (so like...2020s gang). Percy and the others have become figures of legend, heroes spoken about like myths as it's been a couple of decades and well, time moves quickly for mortals. Your characters are part of the next generation now, stepping into a world that still bears the scars of the last generation.

By coincidence, I was thinking all of you would be relatively new campers. The gods have grown lazy with their promises again, so many demigods remain unclaimed far longer than they should. Maybe some of you were only recently claimed, or perhaps you have not even made it to camp yet when the story begins. Either way, you’ll all be new to Camp Half-Blood. And as per usual beyond the safety of Camp Half-Blood, something ancient is beginning to stir. Giving the chance for this new generation of Half-Bloods to decide what legends they will become.

If this sounds like something you would be interested in I have left the link to a google form here:

I tried to keep it short enough it wouldn't take anymore than 5-10 minutes to complete. The main goal to get a group of like minded people who can enjoy this story together. I am also looking for at least one person who has some experience with PbtA and people who are willing to bond and chat OOC ^w^

Thanks for taking the time to read this far and I hope we can get a good group together and have some fun in this world of gods and monsters.

Edit: I’ve gotten a few DMs asking how long the form will be up. I’ll check after my shift at 11:30pm EST today. If there’s a lot of forms by then I may shut ‘er down just to be sure I don’t overwhelm myself with applications! If there’s not too many I’ll leave it up for 24 hours!!

Edit #2: Realizing I uh…forgot to mention. Romance should it happen would be like PG13+ (like Y’know a lil’ kiss at most sort of vibe) given we are playing campers! The reason I put 21+ was purely because I’m in my later 20s and well…21+ is where I feel comfortable interacting with people online haha.

Edit # 3: Oh gosh hi everyone! I am so touched with all the replies. I have gotten…so many applications. Which is awesome!! I’m glad so many people liked this idea. I’m now closing the form. I’ll be going through them tomorrow I will update this post with the CLOSED flair once the final
Group is chosen. Again thank you so so much to everyone who took the time to fill out an application! I’ll be reading through each and every one of them to get the best possible group.

Percy Jackson/Greek Demigod Inspired PBP Game for a First Time PBP GM

Hello everyone!

A little while ago on Instagram I saw this creator [@meggo.cabras] talking about a PJO campaign she ran in D&D 5e! Given I grew up reading the books myself, and had a deep fascination and love with Greek mythology that stemmed from my love for the franchise I immediately got inspired and thought it would be a very fun campaign setting!
Then I fell into a rabbit hole being advertised Circe’s Guide to Aeaea as a supplement (which I of course backer right away on backerkit. Highly recommend Greek mythology nerds to check this one out)
And then also with Theros it seems like there is a lot of Greek DemiGod possibility for a D&D 5e campaign!!

I started working on a story, started to get some references going. Overall it has been a blast to start planning! However, I also recently just learned about PBP! I’ve role played for a handful of years, and I really love it. I also love D&D and I feel like PBP will work a lot better for me once I finish up actually prepping and designing this campaign! I found this subreddit by happenstance when I was googling PBP and thought it would be an appropriate place to post these questions! (If not I am so sorry and I will remove this post IMMEDIATELY)

The questions I have are:
- I see a lot of the issues around PBP are similar to that of RP (ghosting, lack of activity, stalls in the story). What are some of the ways PBP DMs mitigate this that you found successful?

- Forms wise how does a typical PBP form work best? I’ve peeked at some of the ones from the games in this subreddit and see a mix of very long and very short ones. What have you guys found to work best to get a cohesive group?

- Do you think this campaign could thrive in a PBP format? Is there maybe a system other than D&D 5e would be a better fit?

- How do people handle D&D 5e combat in a text format? How do you deal with maps and distance and movement? Is it kind of like theatre of the mind or do people use VTTs?

- Does anyone have any helpful PBP resources they wouldn’t mind sharing with a first time PBP DM?

- Would there be any interest at all for a setting like this do you think?

- Any advice at all for someone who is very new to PBP GMing for the first time with no direct PBP experience?

Realistically I don’t know if I’d be able to run this (PBP or In Person) for a little while. But I was really curious to see if I should set this up PBP or In Person and thought these would be some good questions to get answered.

I am ever grateful for any answer or advice. Thank you for taking the time to read this far and I hope you have an excellent weekend!!
