[Discord][Asynch][Genesys] Exagora One: A(n Old) New Frontier

A long, loooong time ago, Exagora One was established over the wild superplanet Abraxas by the Imperium. Exagora was the pinnacle of colonial technology and had all the funds and resources behind it one could hope for to tame such a wild place. Unfortunately, within a year of Exagora's arrival to Abraxas, the Imperium imploded. Its space now run by local warlords and up for grab by its former political rivals, Exagora was left on its own with no hope of colonization.

In the absence of Imperium oversight, the massive super-station (with a size and population so great it is akin to a fairly large city) has developed an identity all to its own. Its local government is more or less a conglomerate of the wealthiest, most influential citizens aboard, backed by mercenary towns. Sheriffs and their deputies, largely former Imperium security officers, do their best to maintain order and some nominal sense of law, but without greater oversight, it has become a hub of illicit trade, violent crime, and gambling.

No one cares that it's illegal to shoot someone for looking at you funny. Just don't get caught.

Hi! I'm Barren. I'm looking for 2-3 players for a Genesys game using Embers of the Imperium's mechanics, but a largely ad-libbed, homebrew setting. Looking for Firefly-esque 'plucky characters who are down on their luck do their best' in a Deep Space 9 Type, space-western setting. Lighter in tone and direction with characters who lean heroic but aren't necessarily heroes.

What I ask of you:

Respect post length! That means not underselling when someone does a lot of work, but it also means knowing when to call it quits. Dynamic length matters! A good post can be short or long, it's about the effort and what you give to the other player to use!

Be able to post in the main story at least once a day! Real life happens, communicate communicate communicate, but outside of it getting in the way, I'd prefer to be able to keep the story moving.

Finally, Tupperbox usage will be mandatory.

If you want to give it a shot, apply here! I'll leave this up for a few days, then reach out to standouts privately!

EDIT: I had the wrong form linked! Whoops!

Interest check for a Daggerheart PbP game!

As the title implies, I'm thinking of running a Daggerheart PbP game using Discord, and wanted to check if there was enough interest here in that kind of thing!

For a little more information: I've been DMing for just under two years, mainly DnD 5.5 but with a 20-odd session Daggerheart game in there as well. I've only DMed in the PbP format briefly, but have extensive experience as a PbP player.

[Asynch][Discord][18+]VTM V5]A long-term Chronicle

EDIT: THANK YOU FOR ALL THE INTEREST!! the form has been closed, as i have enough applications to go through! Will be reaching out throughout the night <3 thank you for your time!!

Hello all!! Can i interest you in vampires?

If yes, welcome to my pitch for my game!

This will be run asynchronously on discord! I'm in the EST timezone, and my activity hours will typically be in the evenings! (I am a night owl so expect frequent late night activity lmao)

I'm looking for 5-6 players! I have a preference for people who can post at least once every 48 hours, but we can discuss schedules <3

We will be utilizing the Vampire the Masquerade V5 system for this game. If you've never played, don't worry! I will be more than happy to help beginners get the hang of it!!

This will be a roleplay focused game! Combat CAN HAPPEN, but know that a lot of it can potentially be avoided if you play your cards right.

This game will tackle dark themes, but only as dark as everyone agrees to! I will talk with each player individually about what they DONT want to see, and we will also discuss as a group. I take my player's comfort VERY seriously so if ANY of you have ANY issues please come to me. I'd love to figure out the issue together!

Technicalities aside, PITCH TIMEE

-----

Salem, Massachusetts.

A name that holds history, misery, and despair. Ghosts haunt its people and their streets. The cry of a reverend echoes throughout the cemetery at the dead of night. Women and men alike, wronged by those around them.

A name has already been built here. A camarilla that is rivaled by no other in the area, one that rules with an iron fist.

Thank GOODNESS you don't live there. That would be unfortunate!

Salem, Virginia. 2016. THIS is where you find yourselves.

A small coterie of go-getters has been dispatched from Washington DC to set up a functioning camarilla in this city. And you, my friend, may just be one of them.

Will you be able to achieve your goal? How will you get these kindred to listen to you?

What will get in your way? Fellow kindred? The kine? Hunters? Or something completely different?

Who will you become?

Camp Half-Blood: The Kleos Cycle [Looking For 4-5 Players] [ASYNCH] [Discord] [Demigods System] [21+]

Hello everyone!

I posted here a handful of days ago and got a lot of advice (thanks again to everyone who replied and helped me cultivate what I think is going to be a very fun game!). Today, I am here to post the official ad for the game! (Insert government-mandated confetti and celebratory emojis here.)

Just in case you have not seen my previous post, hi there!!! I'm Laurel, and I am brand new to PBP. I saw a creator on Instagram was running a D&D 5e Percy Jackson-inspired adventure and thought, “God, that sounds like a lot of fun!” So I built up a plot over the past couple of weeks and then realized that, “Hey, maybe this would work super well as an RP,” and one Google search after another led me to the discovery of PBP! Then this amazing forum recommended Demigods, which is run with PbtA, and WHABAM! We're here!

I have about 4-ish years of DM experience in D&D 2014. This is a very different game, which I am aware of, and that experience has been with live, in-person games, so is that really relevant experience? Well... no. But I do have it!! Slightly more relevant is that I have about 10 years of RP experience on Discord, so I'm familiar with the platform.

But yes, if you read that and are still interested in joining my game and learning alongside me, thank you! Here's some more information on the game!

System: Demigods (I will be providing all necessary resources to the players)

Platform: Discord

This will be an asynchronous game [I am in the EST timezone, and my most active hours are usually in the evening and nighttime.]

Posting Expectations: One post every 48 hours at minimum. Third person, past tense.

I am looking for 4 players (maybe 5 if there is a group of friends that joins, though I do not know how common that is in PBP).

Brief Synopsis: I’m hoping to keep things a little mysterious at first. I want to capture the feeling of the early Percy Jackson books, where the world feels strange and unfamiliar, and both the characters and players slowly learn about Camp Half-Blood together.

The campaign is set roughly twenty years after the original series (so like...2020s gang). Percy and the others have become figures of legend, heroes spoken about like myths as it's been a couple of decades and well, time moves quickly for mortals. Your characters are part of the next generation now, stepping into a world that still bears the scars of the last generation.

By coincidence, I was thinking all of you would be relatively new campers. The gods have grown lazy with their promises again, so many demigods remain unclaimed far longer than they should. Maybe some of you were only recently claimed, or perhaps you have not even made it to camp yet when the story begins. Either way, you’ll all be new to Camp Half-Blood. And as per usual beyond the safety of Camp Half-Blood, something ancient is beginning to stir. Giving the chance for this new generation of Half-Bloods to decide what legends they will become.

- - - - -

If this sounds like something you would be interested in I have left the link to a google form here:

I tried to keep it short enough it wouldn't take anymore than 5-10 minutes to complete. The main goal to get a group of like minded people who can enjoy this story together. I am also looking for at least one person who has some experience with PbtA and people who are willing to bond and chat OOC ^w^

Thanks for taking the time to read this far and I hope we can get a good group together and have some fun in this world of gods and monsters.

Edit: I’ve gotten a few DMs asking how long the form will be up. I’ll check after my shift at 11:30pm EST today. If there’s a lot of forms by then I may shut ‘er down just to be sure I don’t overwhelm myself with applications! If there’s not too many I’ll leave it up for 24 hours!!

Edit #2: Realizing I uh…forgot to mention. Romance should it happen would be like PG13+ (like Y’know a lil’ kiss at most sort of vibe) given we are playing campers! The reason I put 21+ was purely because I’m in my later 20s and well…21+ is where I feel comfortable interacting with people online haha.

Edit # 3: Oh gosh hi everyone! I am so touched with all the replies. I have gotten…so many applications. Which is awesome!! I’m glad so many people liked this idea. I’m now closing the form. I’ll be going through them tomorrow I will update this post with the CLOSED flair once the final
Group is chosen. Again thank you so so much to everyone who took the time to fill out an application! I’ll be reading through each and every one of them to get the best possible group.

Whispers of the Old Gods

IGNORE THE TAG, THIS IS NOT YET SET IN STONE OF BEING RUN ON DISCORD

Hello all! I'm Ghost (29F, she/they), because I mostly lurk in the deep dark depths of social media and never surface!

Until now with Reddit. Pretty new to this place and play-by-post in general, I'll keep it simple. Anyone interested in playing with me as the GM either in Discord or Stoat about this:

The Whispers refers to a global anomalous event marked by a synchronized cognitive disturbance and the sudden formation of unstable cosmic rifts across Earth. These rifts are intermittently visible and spatially inconsistent, intersecting normal reality and allowing non-terrestrial entities and altered physical states to emerge. Rift zones persist as shifting regions where standard physical laws degrade, producing persistent environmental and structural anomalies.

Exposure to what is commonly termed Elder radiation produces a wide spectrum of effects in humans and ecosystems. In individuals, this results in highly variable anomalous abilities, including but not limited to pyrokinesis, electrokinesis, biological restructuring, gravitational distortion, temporal displacement, and extreme cases of localized reality alteration. These manifestations are typically involuntary and unstable, with outcomes ranging from controlled utility to catastrophic loss of containment.

Every day a super tech company called DUSK broadcasts, inviting those who exhibit these powers to join their ranks, to help them with their powers and to help with stalking the wilds or urban environments in search of rogue anomalies that seek to destroy humanity.

PM me if you're interested with your nickname, pronouns, timezone, hobbies, preferred platform (discord, matrix, stoat, nemitrix, etc), system suggestions, and basic concept based on premise alone. I've yet to decide on what system but considering SWADE or hacked Mutant Year Zero. Maybe PbtA but I've played way too much of that in voice games so I'm trying to expand.

This is simultaneously an interest check and a recruitment, because once I've decided who the players will be and what system I will use (based on said chosen players) I will send out invites to you.

Discomfort with the intimacy of other people in roleplay

Hi, I'm not from the US, you people seem to use different terms than people from my country and have specific distinctions for each style of play. However imprecise it may be, for me it always came down to RPGs... I literally discovered the term PBP a few days ago, and I believe this might be the ideal subreddit to talk about it. If not, I kindly ask that you tell me which subreddit I should post this on.

Anyway, I like classic casual roleplay. By "classic" I mean completely free, two people, no system, decide on a topic at the beginning of the conversation and go from there. I used to do it a lot when I was younger, and I stopped for a long time until a few weeks ago.

I've noticed something that's been bothering me. The vast, VAST majority of people I've roleplayed with seem to want a level of intimacy that goes beyond the story. I don't remember this happening when I was younger; I played a lot between the ages of 11 and 15, and I don't remember it happening this often.

Today I'm 21 years old. I missed that time and went to Kyodo, the spiritual successor to Amino. Luckily, most people there are adults like me. But it seems so strange. Even as adults, many people seem to want the same intimacy that the characters have, but between the people on the outside. Why do people want me to call them "love", "darling", "honey", "sweetie"? People want me to be a boyfriend, to say sweet good mornings and goodnights, to be present even outside of the characters' storylines, they want to know too much about my life.

Not that I care about it. I try to be polite, to be nice, I greet people, I try to be respectful. But I'm shocked by how people ask me to act romantically with someone I met a day ago. Or rather, someone I DON'T know. It sounds like the kind of thing 13-year-old girls would demand from others, but these are adults. Unless they lied about their ages, but I find it hard to believe someone would go to such lengths to fake work hours for that.

I don't know, it's strange.

Rise of the Nobodies

Rise of the Nobodies is a custom fantasy play-by-post RPG ran through my discord about ordinary people becoming extraordinary through their choices.

Players begin as complete nobodies. There are no starting classes, no predetermined destinies, and no assumptions about who your character will become. Instead, your abilities, skills, and reputation are shaped entirely by what you do in the world.

Want to become a swordsman? Train with a blade.

Want to become a mage? Seek out magical knowledge.

Want to build a bank, establish a trade empire, or found your own town? The world is open to your ambition.

Characters earn experience through combat, exploration, roleplay, quest completion, and meaningful story progression. Advancement is organic, and every decision has consequences.

The world is persistent and reactive. Towns grow, economies change, relationships evolve, and your actions can reshape the setting in lasting ways.

Whether you dream of becoming a legendary warrior, a master thief, a powerful merchant, or a respected political leader, your story begins with nothing.

The only question is:

Who will you become when no one knows your name?

----------------------

Those interested in joining should send me a message here or leave a comment. I won't post my discord link publicly due to the number of scammers and bots that have been joining discord servers.

Iron Valley or Ironsworn Co-Op

Just an interest check, I really really want to play these two with someone 'cause I feel like it'd be incredibly fun!

I've played Iron Valley solo and I like it but I crave someone to talk to and bounce off ideas with.

Sorry for the short post, I promise I'm not boring! I just don't know what else to say other than the obvious!

Oh, I forgot to mention! The game will be asynchronous and we'll use discord and iron fellowship

The Shattered Obelisk - Discord 5e (2014 rules)

Hey everyone! I’m looking for five players to join me in “Phandelver and Below: The Shattered Obelisk”. A few notes about this game:

- I haven’t played and/or DM’d in a few years, so I’m a bit rusty. A patient group is needed! I also haven’t played since the 2024 changes came out, so we will be using the 2014 rules.

- Part of this campaign does contain “Lost Mine of Phandelver”, which is a very popular story from a starter set. Just FYI for those who have already played this campaign!

- I’m on EST and can be active from 7am - 11pm my time. I tend to post quite a bit, so it would be nice to have players who are fairly active as well. At least post once a day please!

- I would like to use the Avrae dice bot and DND Beyond for the basis of our game. If you aren’t familiar with either of these, that’s okay! It’s been a while since I played, so having at least one player who is very well versed in Avrae would be ideal. Always nice to have some help!

Please send me a message here on Reddit if you’re interested. I don’t need a writing sample, but I’d like to chat a bit before making my decision. Thanks and hope to hear from you all soon!

Aetheria: A Multiplayer RPG where an AI Game Master weaves the world, the lore, and even your Guild Crests dynamically.

The air tastes of ozone and old blood...
Hello world! I’m excited to finally share Aetheria, a persistent browser-based multiplayer RPG that I’ve been building. It’s set in a world fractured by the "Great Collision," where our dimension has merged with a shadow plane.
What makes Aetheria different?
True AI Game Master: Every interaction, quest, and NPC dialogue is generated dynamically by Gemini AI. No more "go kill 10 rats" (unless the AI thinks it fits the lore!).
🗺️** Dynamic World Building**: Travelers can venture into the "Fog of Anomalies" to generate entirely new, permanent map locations, biomes (Snow Peaks, Deserts, Volcanic Wastelands), and lore.
🛡️** Guilds 2.0**: Form guilds and get a uniquely generated AI emblem based on your description. Tackle Guild Quests that take place at real map locations.
🏡 Claim your Land: In Aetheria, you can purchase plots of land and build anything from a humble tavern to a massive fortress.
👥 Persistent Multiplayer: You’ll see other "Wanderers" in your location and can team up in shared chat to take down anomalies together.
I just released v0.2, which added the Guild system and land ownership. The game is completely free to play—I just want to build a cool community of roleplayers and explorers.

I’d love to hear your feedback, see your AI-generated guild crests, and watch how you shape this world.

May the gods be in your favor, Wanderers.

Weekly Looking for Group/GM Thread

If you are not a full party looking for a gm or a gm looking for a party, you may no longer post an ad looking for a group. The reason behind this being most everyone on this subreddit is in the same exact boat as you! It is beginning to clutter up our subreddit for the people wanting to look for actual games to join.

To be clear, this rule is directed to those that are marketing themselves and/or their friends as players, saying they are looking for 1 on 1 games and any new or already running group to join. This does not include the players taking active measures to actually form a group themselves. Please comment if you do not understand the posts I am referring to.

INSTEAD! We are going to be making a stickied thread for those expressing interest in finding a group to join. We encourage you to comment within that thread and to be specific in the system you are interested in and any other information you may have to market yourself to others. A general "Hey I'm looking for a group and I wanna play a whole lot and I've had no luck!" does not suffice usually.

If you are looking for a group to join, comment in this thread with as much information as you'd like to market yourself with! Some suggestions are, but not limited to:

Name:

Pronouns:

Timezone:

Preferred System:

Type of Player:

[Discord] [Avrae] [5e 2024] [EST] Cult of the Black Thorn

The world has never been fair to you, always beating you down at your lowest, never giving you a chance to get back on your feet. You grew up on the streets with no family to take care of you. People would pass you by either without a look, or disgust painted all over their face. You're a worm to society, a worthless fly on the wall, trash to be thrown away and forgotten about. Even other outcasts like you have stabbed you in the back, both literally and figuratively. You were never meant for greatness.

Or were you?

After years of groveling in the mud and garbage in the city, you and a small group of other outcasts that just barely trust one another set out to try your luck outside the walls. Only a couple days into your journey and you're at each other's throats. No food. No water. Every waking second is a fight for your life. Maybe life outside the city isn't any better. That is until you all stumble on a hidden ancient ruin from a time long lost. Curious, you explore. Maybe too far.

Deep within the ruins is a dusty book on a wrecked stone table. Upon reading the book you and the others are contacted by a very old, and forgotten god. Calling themselves the "Black Thorn," they offer you all incredible power in exchange for faith, prayer, and sacrifice.

Your goal is to start a cult, recruit members throughout the continent, manage the cult members by sending them to terrorize or recruit more, and ultimately serve your new master. Will you and your group of once outcasts work together, or turn on one another at the chance for more power?

Inspired by the video game Cult of the Lamb, but instead of running the whole cult by yourself you share the load with a small group of others. The game will feature light combat and focus more on RP; managing the cult and its members; and spreading your influence through manipulation with words and trickery.

Theme: High Fantasy / Cults

System: 5e 2024

Focus: RP, management, mystery, combat (in order of importance to game)

Combat: Theater of the mind / Discord whiteboard

Communication: ALL through Discord

Time Zone: EST

[Pokérole][Async][18+] Pokémon Adventure in an untamed region

Trainers, explorers and fortune seekers! You have all made the dangerous journey to the Maeven region, home of the brave and the visionary. In these untamed lands, trainers are vital to preserve the ecosystem and protect settlements from danger.

The region will test your skill and mettle, causing you to grow rapidly as a trainer and a person. The bonds between you, your Pokémon and your fellow trainers will grow strong, while you make a real difference to the world around you.

Now, leave safety and comfort behind and venture outward. Once you and your partners are ready, I would love nothing more than for you to defeat me in battle.

  • Maeven League Champion Bastian Alicea

Trainers make their way to the Maeven Region for many reasons: Some in search of glory, others to aid the local population and a rare few to research its strange and irregular migration patterns. While the coastal cities sport advanced infrastructure and modern amenities courtesy of corporate investments, the vast central areas of the continent are dangerous and largely uninhabited. Rangers keep small communities safe, often aided by traveling trainers, while researching the region's varied and unique ecosystems.

The region sports its own gym circuit and the journey will take trainers all across the region, where the journey between the cities might be as difficult as the gym challenges themselves. Some gyms even sport special challenges, to test more than just the trainer's use of Pokémon in battle. On this path, they need to grow as people, together with their Pokémon partners, and prove that they have what it takes to overcome the region's unique challenges.

However, hostile Pokémon and the untamed wilderness are not the only dangers that lurk in Maeven. The sightings of Legendary Pokémon in the region have gained the attention of a very dangerous individual, who's plans will be made known all too soon.
__________________________________________________________________________________________

This game will be ran as a small-group RP, with 2-3 players. This is done to keep it a focused experience and to give you the opportunity to pursue different things without giving your GM (me) a massive workload.

However, this does place a bit more of an expectation on each of the players. As you are a smaller group, it requires the participants to actively engage with the world and your surroundings to progress forward. I ask that all participants are able to post daily.

The system used will be Pokérole, which aims to make the game feel more like the anime than the games. Beginners to the system are very much welcome and I will not expect anyone to have any sort of experience with Pokérole at all. It comes with a good dice and info bot, courtesy of the community, and a comprehensive rules document.

I've ran pbp and voiced games for at least 10 years, us and am typically active from 12 to 9PM EST. As a GM, I enjoy focusing games around the player characters, to facilitate interesting and deeply personal stories where their choices shape the world around them. I enjoy high-stakes drama, fantastical locales and portraying unique and interesting NPCs to aid or hinder the group on their journey. I ask that all participants refrain from using generative AI for character art and writing. The game will be ran in a discord server, which contains multiple channels filled with additional region information and other useful things.

Percy Jackson/Greek Demigod Inspired PBP Game for a First Time PBP GM

Hello everyone!

A little while ago on Instagram I saw this creator [@meggo.cabras] talking about a PJO campaign she ran in D&D 5e! Given I grew up reading the books myself, and had a deep fascination and love with Greek mythology that stemmed from my love for the franchise I immediately got inspired and thought it would be a very fun campaign setting!
Then I fell into a rabbit hole being advertised Circe’s Guide to Aeaea as a supplement (which I of course backer right away on backerkit. Highly recommend Greek mythology nerds to check this one out)
And then also with Theros it seems like there is a lot of Greek DemiGod possibility for a D&D 5e campaign!!

I started working on a story, started to get some references going. Overall it has been a blast to start planning! However, I also recently just learned about PBP! I’ve role played for a handful of years, and I really love it. I also love D&D and I feel like PBP will work a lot better for me once I finish up actually prepping and designing this campaign! I found this subreddit by happenstance when I was googling PBP and thought it would be an appropriate place to post these questions! (If not I am so sorry and I will remove this post IMMEDIATELY)

The questions I have are:
- I see a lot of the issues around PBP are similar to that of RP (ghosting, lack of activity, stalls in the story). What are some of the ways PBP DMs mitigate this that you found successful?

- Forms wise how does a typical PBP form work best? I’ve peeked at some of the ones from the games in this subreddit and see a mix of very long and very short ones. What have you guys found to work best to get a cohesive group?

- Do you think this campaign could thrive in a PBP format? Is there maybe a system other than D&D 5e would be a better fit?

- How do people handle D&D 5e combat in a text format? How do you deal with maps and distance and movement? Is it kind of like theatre of the mind or do people use VTTs?

- Does anyone have any helpful PBP resources they wouldn’t mind sharing with a first time PBP DM?

- Would there be any interest at all for a setting like this do you think?

- Any advice at all for someone who is very new to PBP GMing for the first time with no direct PBP experience?

Realistically I don’t know if I’d be able to run this (PBP or In Person) for a little while. But I was really curious to see if I should set this up PBP or In Person and thought these would be some good questions to get answered.

I am ever grateful for any answer or advice. Thank you for taking the time to read this far and I hope you have an excellent weekend!!

Working on a discord alternative with first class support for PBP

Hi y'all,

I'm (we) are working on an alternative for discord for various reasons. Mainly because we're sick and tired of the way discord treats our personal data and on the other hand because it will lay a foundation of our in dev game.

This is going to be a full fledged social platform with guilds, channels, voice, stream, cam, permissions etc. support. We're working on that for quite a while now in our free time!

Anyway, since my GF plays PBP mainly using discord and complains every few days how unorganized and annoying it is, I'm playing with the thought of adding first class support for PBP into our application..

One feature - for example - which I'm thinking of, is to allow custom character creation directly on "member" level. So you could in theory create a persona which behaves like a real member of the guild, but can be impersonated. That character then can be linked to a wiki with a full markdown based description (images, tables, everything one could need).

Is this something you would use or find useful?

I'd love to hear your thoughts about this. If you want you can also add them here https://tally.so/r/Gxq9GQ <- This is our wait and wishlist and helps me to keep things a bit organized.

Best,

Dominic

Does anyone notice increase in ttrpg platforms/character sheets lately?

I think I have seen at least 4 this week pop up in various subreddits (such as dndnext, swn, pbp)

I’m wondering why there is a sudden increase?
