Practicing Complementary Skills
Coaches are always telling young players to get out & practice on their own. What I notice is players practice doing things that don't really make sense to coaches [at least to me] like spinning the stick in the air, throwing the ball 50+ yards at nothing, kicking the ball into the goal, etc.
I make videos like these for the few players I have who will watch them & learn what kinds of things they should be doing when practicing on their own. Specifically, mom or dad might want to get outside with their kid and practice, but might not know what kinds of drills to do, or why.
Tough to balance this more structured approach with the idea of keeping it fun for the kids [12 yr olds & older]. The reality is that kids who just play lacrosse just because won't practice on their own anyway (and that's okay!), and the ones who are more serious about it are less concerned with having fun for fun's sake.
Knowing kinds of things - style of play, knowing different areas of the field, how to create a shot for yourself, when to use the left or the right hand - is expected at the high school & college levels, so practicing with thse concepts in mind at a young age can help prepare the players to play at the next nevel.
