1950s/1960s influence on the show

Of course, I Was a Teenage Spy is an obvious example of this, but I also just watched The Happiest Show on Earth and that episode starts with Cory doing the twist to a doo-wop song. I feel like that could have been a riff on him being a grandfatherly square but I also remember Pod Meets World mentioning how certain anachronisms made no sense based on the main demographic of the show (like the Monkees appearance). I feel like there are other examples that just aren’t coming to mind, and I also haven’t listened to Pod Meets World in awhile so I’m not sure how deep they’ve dived into this.

So I figured I’d ask yall — does this feel like a stylistic choice or intentional approach to character development/world building, or does it feel at odds with the BMW universe and like an oversight of the show’s creators?
