QD-OLED S90H (au spec) Calibration

Hey all

I'm looking at either getting my s90h calibrated or getting the gear and doing it myself, partly because I would like to get numbers for people in regions that have the QD-OLED variant on the s90h so we have something to base our purchasing decisions in regards to numbers and raw data and the other half is I would like to do the ana_peak mod on both my s90h and s90sc which will both require calibration to get the ETOF curve back in check. Any tips tricks or current gear recommendations would be great, currently have quotes from a reputable shop to do it for $250 au also, many thanks :)

S90h QD-OLED (Au spec) first impressions

Hi all

The Australian market gets the s90h with the QD-OLED panel and just thought I'd share my thoughts as all media only talks about the North American WOLED version, I don't have any measuring equipment but I did do some back to back runs with a qn95b for a reference point. Hoping this gains enough traction to show that there is demand for a QD-OLED s90h review :)

Firstly the matte finish is phenomenal for the space I'm viewing my TV in, it has 5m window with a white wall behind that gets the brunt of the afternoon sun, think of it as a white sheet constantly getting reflected on the screen, my qn95b could not overpower this so when I tried to watch a dark scene today and test it out and could still clearly make out the scene I was extremely impressed. There is a penalty for some raised blacks but I would say it's actually less then my glossy g9 OLED monitor.

I originally moved away from OLED to mini LED as I found OLEDs far too dim and removed mine from the lounge for this reason, I'm happy to report that the s90h does not have this issue, in fact it is the complete opposite, it is somehow brighter then my qn95b, I don't know if that's perceived brightness, the matte coating eating the light and making the TV look brighter or just the tv genuinely being brighter, very pleasantly surprised, also viewed the s90h side by side with a LG G6 in the store and the s90h did seem to be brighter as well which doesn't seem to be the behaviour of the WOLED s90h

Motion performance has also been fantastic, the first bit of content I viewed was today's world cup match between NZ and Egypt and the motion handling specifically with the ball was significantly better than my qn95b, colours were also much more pleasant and brightness was fantastic for football viewing

Gaming performance has also been exemplary, plenty bright and the tiny highlight details on particle effects have just been chefs kiss

Weirdly enough the in-built speakers are actually pretty good as well, I hadn't set up my sound system yet as I was in a rush setting this up at halftime for the football and damn it sounded full of life with a pretty decent range, my wife actually commented on how good it sounded.

I might give it some time to release a full verdict but initial reaction is this is a superior tv to the qn95b in nearly everyway. If you have any questions please feel free to ask away!
