Best TV about or under 1k these days

My family has been looking to replace our 10 year old living room TV for a while but now our 2 year old media room TV we didn't intend to replace stopped working after a software update. It was right at the end of our 2 year warranty and now we can't get it replaced. We are probably looking at getting 2 of the same model in different sizes.

I see a lot of discussion saying the Sony TVs are the best, but considering the 2 year old one that died was a Sony Bravia I feel a little uncomfortable buying. My top contenders right now are TCL and Hisense but since I know nothing about TVs I came here looking for help. Please let me know what are some models you reccomend!

s90f or bravia 3

Hello guys!

I am torn between the 77in s90f and the 100in bravia 3. the viewing distance is about 14ft. I know the 100in is better for this scenario but I really love the colors on the s90f.

75” QM7L Pro vs 65” S90F OLED

Just bought a 75” TCL QM7L Pro for $1,300, including a 5-year warranty, but now I’m second guessing it.

The 65” Samsung S90F OLED just dropped to $1,000 brand new, but I’d be buying it without an extended warranty.

Viewing distance is about 8–11 ft depending on where you’re sitting on the sectional.

Main use:

Sports — especially NFL

Movies/streaming

Xbox gaming

Room has windows, but no direct sunlight hits the TV (have blackout blinds too)

I was excited about going 75”, but saving $300 AND getting an OLED for $1,000 seems like a pretty crazy deal.

Would you keep the 75” QM7L Pro for $1,300 + 5-year warranty, or cancel it and get the 65” S90F for $1,000?

Is the jump to OLED worth giving up 10” at this viewing distance?

It was a lot easier buying a TV 10 years ago, I have no idea what to get.

Looking to purchase 6 TVs, 3 of them will be 65-85, the other 3 will be the guest bedrooms so whatevers cheap I suppose.

the ones that matter:

1 - bit of darker den

2- brighter den

3 - Master bedroom, can be made bright or dark

4,5,6 - if you have any recs, please share; otherwise, will probably just get whatever's cheap

We basically just watch movies, shows, and sports. Currently have a bunch of old Sonys and never had any issue with any of them for the last 12 years. Would like to replace these with reliable TVs that provide an enjoyable watching experience.

Budget for the main 3 1500-2k each…may be able to push this a bit, but the wife is going a little ham with the furniture, so trying to keep within the total budget we have for furnishing the house.

Appreciate the help thanks all

LG G6 77" vs Samsung S95H 77" vs S95F 83" — picture quality vs extra size?

I'm trying to decide between three OLEDs:

LG G6 77" — new

Samsung S95H 77" — new

Samsung S95F 83" — used once

The G6 and S95H are essentially the same price, while the 83" S95F is around 37% less.

I previously had a 77" Samsung S90F WOLED (EU version) but wasn't particularly impressed with its brightness or colour punch.

My room gets a decent amount of daylight and my viewing distance is around 10.5 ft / 3.2m. Realistically, I'll mostly be watching SDR content during the daytime, with movies and gaming more towards the evening/night.

The G6 appeals because of its Primary RGB Tandem OLED panel, high brightness including larger bright areas, Dolby Vision and 5-year panel warranty. From reviews, it seems LG has closed much of the gap to QD-OLED in colour performance while offering exceptional overall brightness.

The S95H (EU non-bezel version, not the S99H) appeals because it's QD-OLED, which should give me the higher saturated colour brightness/volume I felt was missing from my S90F WOLED.

The 83" S95F is tempting because it's around 37% less while giving roughly 16% more screen area. However, it uses Tandem WOLED rather than QD-OLED. I know it's considerably higher performance than the conventional WOLED in my old S90F but I'm wondering whether I'd still miss the extra colour punch of QD-OLED.

I'm also unsure about Samsung's matte/Glare Free coating versus the more traditional glossy appearance of the G6. Reflections matter in my room, but so do perceived blacks, contrast and clarity. I've seen the G6 in person but haven't seen either Samsung.

Which would you choose for this usage: the larger and cheaper 83" S95F, the G6 for its perhaps all-round picture quality or the S95H for QD-OLED colour punch?

It’s been a while since I’ve bought a TV. Best 75” in the $1k-$1500 range?

I’ve got a fairly bright room that I would like to find a solid TV for. Ideally of course it would do it all, but if I had to list a priority it would be - live sports - gaming and then movies.

I’ll be running a Firestick and external speakers so I’m really not concerned about the software or smart features of the TV nor the internal speakers (does anyone even try to use those)?

It seems the better brands like Sony are clear favorites but also a much higher price point. I have older a Sharp and LG 70+ currently but it seems like some of the previously lessor brands like TCL have improved their quality?

Would love some expert advice :-). Thanks.

Any streaming content to show off a new 4k TV with HDR?

I’m setting up my new TV (replacing a 10 year old 55” with a 75” QM8K) this week and interested in watching as much stuff as possible that shows off its capabilities. In addition to being much bigger and brighter than my current TV, this will be my first TV with HDR support. I have some 4K Blu Rays to watch and some 4k rips on my computer, but beyond that I was wondering if there is anything on the major streaming service (or YouTube) that fully take advantage of 4k and HDR?

Anyone here personally moved from a good Mini-LED to OLED?

I currently own a 65” TCL C7K QD Mini-LED and use it mainly for PS5 Pro gaming, plus Netflix/YouTube.
I’m happy with the C7K overall — strong HDR brightness, very good blacks from my normal viewing position, and I rarely notice blooming.
I’m interested specifically in hearing from people who have actually owned a good Mini-LED and later moved to OLED.
How big was the real-world difference for gaming? Was OLED a major upgrade, or mostly better blacks/viewing angles with some trade-offs in brightness?
The OLEDs I’m considering are the LG C5 and Samsung S90F, both 65”.
Not looking for spec-sheet comparisons — mainly interested in first-hand experience from people who made a similar switch.

Do I go with another Bravia X85J or VQM50C-10?

The Bravia I have is an x85j, but it’s showing lines on the screen. I was told at Best Buy it’s a LED and the Vizio at Walmart is a Mini LED QLED I think? I’m not too smart on TVs. I basically use it for gaming on the PS5 pro and was told both would do 120hz. I’m open to all suggestions. Really looking for a 43-50inch and can’t afford and OLED

Help me decide: TCL 55QM6K vs Hisense 55U6SF Pro?

TV will be my daily driver in my living room. Primarily for watching live sports in the daytime and late-night Netflix binges. I have windows, but they also have shades I can pull down if needed.

I'm really just seeking the absolute best hardware value pick between the two, as they are both the exact same price right now ($550).

I'm kind of leaning toward the Pro as it specs out better, I think? But I am also a TV noob, so help would be appreciated.

LG 77” C6H or higher level 75” TCL such as the QM8L/QM9K/QM8K?

I was looking at TVs for my semi bright living room and have been on the Mini-LED train for the last couple of weeks and have been waiting for Labor Day/Black Friday deals to pull the trigger. But now I have the opportunity to buy the C6H for around $2,000 and the TCLs around $1,500. Which would you do? $2,000 is a lot of money so I would love to hear if you’d go with that.

It would be in the living room with a bay window on the side of the tv, not straight on. I’m worried about the C6H inconsistencies I’ve read, but would love to hear your thoughts. TIA!!

Looking for a TV with similar picture quality as LG OLED48C44LA but with Wider Viewing angle

I’m looking to help my parents with their next TV purchase. They were quite content with their ‘4k’ TV until they visited me one day and felt the picture quality my tv had far outstripped theirs.

Their only issue with the exact model that I have is that the viewing angle wouldn’t fit their living room set up.

Their max budget is £800 and with RTings now being paid membership I have no idea where to start with research so here I am.

Any suggestions would be appreciated

Costco 77” LG C5 Display Model

Hi everyone,

Trying to setup a home theater and found a display model Lg C5 77” for $950 at Costco. 4300 hours of floor use, no obvious issues on pixel testing at home and no signs of burn in currently. It comes with a 2 year manufacturer and all state warranty (none of this covers possible future burn in). I have 90 days to return if unhappy and TV seems perfectly fine.

Wanted everyone’s thoughts as I could get a 65” Samsung S90F from the edu store brand new instead, however it would be a smaller TV. Seems unlikely I will be able to get another deal on a 77” OLED this good as the stock from last years models are dwindling.

Thanks!

Update: after running grayscale testing, there is at best image retention but more likely burn in at the bottom left with an Apple logo. Weird as Costco loop they run in stores does not usually have Apple advertising? Nonetheless, going back and I have learned my lesson.
