Wanted to work in VR, but text is just not there
So I am generally very excited by the concept of VR and bought the AVP when it came out. I returned it because of weight and price.
Recently I was given an essentially brand new M2 AVP, and bought the double strap for it so weight is no longer an issue, nor is price obviously.
My biggest draw was the idea of working in the AVP - having a huge monitor and some nice widgets around me and all that. But the issue unfortunately is that text is still just not sharp enough to be comfortable to read for hours on end. Admittedly I am a pixel peeper - I have a 288 ppi display on my laptop. But still, I just don’t think I can get myself to read huge amounts of text on the AVP. Maybe the M5 is a bit better in that regard, but the display resolution is still the same so I’m guessing not that much better.
Anyway, this is not a gripe with the device as a whole - pixels per degree is basically impossible to hit for the human eye at the fovea at those distances, so you can hardly expect the text to be perfectly sharp. And it’s still an awesome media consumption device. I’m just curious how other people can really get to work in the AVP. Maybe they just don’t care that much about crisp text?
