Advice needed regarding Uc and downsizing
Hi. Recently one of my children went to uni, but comes home at weekends. We do not claim UC for them and have not done so for 2 years, as they are now adult and have their own student loan etc. We had them still listed as living at home, because to us, they do.
However, we live in a 3 bed housing assoc and I knew at some point we would have to downsize to a 2 bed. We still have a younger child at home in full time education for at least another year, and need to stay in this area.
I have been on home swapper for nearly a year, but no swaps as our area is unpopular and too rural.
UC are now cutting our allowance down by over 400 a month due to under occupation, even though uni student comes home at weekends so still needs the room. We cannot afford to move, we cannot afford to take the hit, and I suspect if we did get a swap the rent would actually be higher( due to location changes) and would make no difference to the uc claim... is this a correct assumption?
