TANZANIA RANKS SECOND
GLOBALLY FOR DECLINE IN FREEDOMS - FREEDOM HOUSE
Tanzania has recorded the second-largest year-on-year decline in political rights and civil liberties globally, according to the Freedom in the World 2026 report by Freedom House.
The report says Tanzania's overall score fell by 7 points, from 35/100 to 28/100, placing the country in the "Not Free" category.
Only Guinea-Bissau recorded a larger decline during the period assessed.
According to Freedom House, the decline was linked to developments surrounding Tanzania's 2025 elections, including concerns over:
Freedom of assembly and public demonstrations
The use of force during post-election unrest
Arrests following protests
Restrictions affecting internet access and social media
The political environment surrounding opposition parties
Media freedom and the broader civic space

Just another American who thinks English is a default way to communicate and its not actually a language😂
I'd like hear more about this issue but aren't public protests allowed by law and constitution?
I don't understand. Is it a lack of funding, poor policies, we lack the need or we simply just dont care? Rwanda has made remarkable progress with its "Visit Rwanda" initiative, while Tanzania has so much to offer in terms of tourism and other resources. Yet it often feels like we rely on word of mouth rather than a coordinated strategy to promote our country internationally. Maybe there are factors I'm not aware of because im not an expert on the issue but from the outside, that's how it seems.
Any answers? Because the number of people who claim to believe in God, yet spend the week breaking most if not all of the Ten Commandments, then go to church on Sunday acting holy before repeating the same cycle the next week is astonishing to me
